Is it possible to create a weapon (say, a torpedo launcher or a pulse) that fires in bursts? For example, the weapon fires 5 times in quick succession, followed by a longer pause.

I found it, but I still have some more questions: How do I make it fire reliable bursts at regular intervals? I've cross-referenced the entries in the thread with the BBOM, but I want them to fire regularly, without all this "saving shots" stuff.

This may be what you are looking for, CB. Went to the File Browser, typed in the word 'Burst' and this is the only file which popped up. Even if it isn't what you want, it may be a good starting point for what you are trying to do.
You can also try this: add multiple torpedoes to the same hardpoint but with different fire intervals between them. Like this for example: torp1 with a fire rate of 3.0, torp2 with 3.1 and torp3 with 3.2. The only issue here is that the first time it will fire, it will fire a full spread and not a burst but with the second torps loading, the second salvo will be a burst like we see in the shows. In my opinion this is the best way in which you can make burst fire torps. It works fine in my mod, the only thing is to find the right time interval between bursts. I used this formula: 2 x number of torps fired in a burst = time interval between bursts.
Yup that can work, it makes shooting a bit more interesting and random. I've personally done that on one of my ships for the mod. Sometimes you'll get one torp at a time, other times you'll get a sucession of 3, but it may not be the controlled effect you are looking for?
Actually, I've kinda found what I'm looking for. In a Ferengi race mod found only at AFC, there is a ship that fires torps in rapid succession, limited only by the energy requirements of the torps. Maybe that's what I'll do.
I've tried that too but I wasn't very happy with the result. Why? Because when you have special energy tied to conventional weapons, the special energy has a wired habbit of draining itself when the enemy ship comes into combat range but your ship's weapons aren't facing it. The torps drain the special energy even though they haven't fired yet because of the fire arc restriction. Than again, this can be overcome by setting the fire arc restriction to 0 but this would make the launchers fire the torps form every possible angle and I don't think you want that.
