I've looked everywhere and I can't seem to find anything that could convert a Starfleet Command .MOD file into a .SOD file for Star Trek Armada 2. Or for that matter, anything that can convert directly to .SOD from gmax. Either will do.
Milkshape 3D's Mod plugins can import MOD files, as for Gmax, I don't know. I do know it's a scaled back 3D Max application but I don't think you can get SOD exporters for it. You may have to use Milkshape 3D or V4 or 5 of 3D Max to do the hardpointing.
there is no SOD exporter available for Gmax, even after that manny years the comunity had requested one. :(
Is there at least a tool to let me convert a MOD file to SOD? I haven't been able to find any of those either.
idk if there is one directly best bet is to download the mod import/export for Ms3d and the sod import for Ms3d. import mod ---> edit ---> export sod

Their was a tool made by someone from the SFC comunity called CV that could import both SOD and MOD files and save them to both formats but than you have to add the hardpoints hirarchy to the SOD-files as SFC MOD files have an other hardpoint-system. the easiest way to make a MOD to SOD conversion is to use Milkshape 3d and the plugins and the best way is to use 3ds max for this. :)
Well, I can't afford 3DS Max. So I guess I'll have to go with Milkshape. But I can't find any plugins for that either. I found one that ended up not working (probably because I didn't install it properly).
By the way, what are hard points? Are they some sort of collision-detection system?
I didn't make it!
Hardpoints are the points on the ship where weapons and equipment are mounted
That's the link to the plugins you need. You may have to find the armada SOD importer on the armada2.filfefront.com site....
The SOD importer can only import stock models from the game.
I tried that SOD importer. I couldn't get it to work. I probably put the plugins in the wrong directory or forgot to 'activate' them. Thanks for the link. UPDATE: I guess I did install it correctly after all. It was hidden by a scroll button.
