Hello all,

I have had this up on MSFC for a while now and thought it might get more responces here as it's getting ignored a bit these days by the A2 modding community. Its come to such an extent that the community may end up loosing one of it's sites one that has such resources that others don't like exclusive models and mods etc.

Anyway, to the topic at hand. I have started a personal mod and if I can get permissions I plan to release it. Its set in the Dominion war era and I plan to include the following races:

  • Klingons
  • Federation
  • Breen
  • Sona
  • Dominion
  • Romulans
  • Cardassians

I may even include a Reman full race eventually into the modification. Currently I am focusing on the Cardassians and Dominion, with the Cardassians getting the majority of the attention. In fact I have also completed them ship wise.

There is no set release date on the modification as it's intended as a really long-term modification as I'll be doing all the work myself and it has nothing really outstanding to make it stand out from Modifications like Zero Hour, Tactical Assault, Art of War etc. It's just my take on making a TNG modification set in the Dominion war era, taking off from where the MSFC Dominion Mod and various other private mods in the past have left off.

I'll be adding the best of the best from the community including the Midnight graphics enhancement package, graphic enhancements by Fahres, A2Physics project by Thunderfoot and models by various modellers in particular Achilles. Provided I can get the permissions when I get to the release stage for each race. Oh yes I'll be following in Achilles footsteps with the release the this mod, releasing them in packs of one or two races at a time. It seems to work quite well for Art of War.

The models will be re-textured so the entire fleet will match and some kitbashed to increase the number of ships available. I'll also be converting ships from other games like SFC and BC and poly reducing them to an acceptable limit to run on the storm3d engine which A2 runs on.

As for fleet size I can easily say it won't be nearly as large as Dan's Cardassian and Vulcan mods and not as small as Yesteryears. If I had to put a rough estimate on it I'll have to put down that there will be roughly 20-25 ships per race. I am planing on removing the concept of trading from the game, so bye bye cargo ships and trading stations. The repair ships and colony ships will also go as well. Also officer limit will be abolished for all but the most expensive and powerful units. Things will be simplified and will make A2 much more like what A1 was in terms of gameplay.

Here are some images of the completed Cardassian fleet that are complete (although the Hutet needs a few adjustments and I need to adjust the size of the windows on a few of the ships).

Shown in these images are the following:

  • Hideki Frigate
  • Agari Frigate
  • Kimal Destroyer
  • Norin Destroyer
  • Rabol Destroyer
  • Kondal Cruiser
  • Korinar Cruiser
  • Kalon Cruiser
  • Galor Cruiser
  • Keldon Cruiser
  • Brakus Battleship
  • Hutet Battleship

Don't panic to those still eagerly awaiting Yesteryears we are still hard at work on that modification too, infact I just recieved one of the last batches of Federation stations for the modification so that almost two races complete. I am just in a bit of a TNG mood, something rather rare for me. Must be due to me and my fiancee watching TNG on DVD. ;)

I would appreicate some feedback on this, I know not much can be said at this early stage but feedback is the reason I am posting this here, as I want to access a large portion of the A2 community and get opinions, constructive critisim and just start a general discussion about this mod and hopefully get some ideas from you all and maybe even a volunteer for assistance in the coding side of things.

Like I said over at MSFC, looks good to me Majest. Sounds good too. Personally hoping you include the remans, it'd be interesting to see what designs you come up with for them. Maybe spikier versions of the Romulan ships lol

I'll definitely be following this one. Two things:

1. Since this mod seems to be set around the Dominion War, and the Remans didn't gain autonomy until the mid-2380s (according to the Star Trek Online chronology, and certainly at no time earlier than 2379 according to Nemesis), and since several novels and whatnot mention the Gorn as being part of the Alpha Quadrant Alliance, why not update the Gorn (maybe using YY as a base) for the 24th century instead of adding the Remans?

2. It's obviously a stylistic decision on your part to not use Dan's Cardassian textures, but if Dan is up for it, would you consider releasing a couple of those models to him for his add-on pack as sort of an "advance preview" of your mod?

There's no need really, most of the ship classes shown so far I've already done, the only exceptions there being the Kondal and Kalon Classes, which I do have in .3ds format on a HDD somewhere. I wasn't planning to put them in the addon pack but I'll take a look at the models for retexturing possibility anyway. So no worries about Majestic having to send me the models :)

Very cool. Would it be presumptuous to assume an update to the Cardassian ships thread might be imminent? ;)

Looks good so far Majest, though I may not be a huge fan for the color of them Cardassian ships, the retextures do look good though. :) Am curious though, you've stated 20-25 ships per race, yet the Cardassians only have 12? They unfinished, or are they just having a limited number, when compared to the other races?

Thank you all for the feedback and comments, I appreicate it!

Well to be honest the Gorn won't be included, they are in YY and I would prefer to do a Reman race in their place. The Remans were used in the Dominion war as stock troops as indicated in Nemesis and the Picard clone was infact a ship commander as stated in the same movie so I assume they would have had their own ships in some cases most likely Romulan designs but hell I am taking an artistic licence. =p

As for the Cardassian pack of Dans, well he has explained it for you. It also takes a lot of effort to retexture a model and that is what Dan would have to do to get the models to fit in with his race.

Dan if you plan to include some of the models I have here, just ask and I'll send you the split MS3D file of the ships to make it easier for you. ;)

Well I will no doubt be darkening the textures before release. The Cardassians are not complete there yet. I still have two non-combats and about four or so combats left to do.

Oh if anyone has or can model a tonga for me (I don't need it textured for obvious reasons) I would be greatly appreicitive. :)

Excellent work Majestic! I especially like the hull detailing. I am well in favour of making A2 play more like A1 - I think A1 had far superior game play - great idea! Im currently looking into buying a new gaming laptop, so I will be looking forward to this one... Also, short of being a south pacific island state, whats a tonga?
