Ok, we all know what Construction Ships do, and how they work (well, I had hoped that everyone knew) :p Anyway, I'm faced with a Dilemma. I've got three choices for the Zero Hour Construction Ships.
- Animated Cargo Doors, which open when you construct the unit to build, then the worker bee's would fly out, construct the station, then fly back and the doors would close.
- 'Open' Cargo Doors, which would stay open at all times.
- No Doors, and No Bees. - You'd just have a construction ship that moves around and 'builds' but with no bee or cargo door animation.
My current choices are the latter two, as nobody in my team is either capable of doing animation, or has the software needed, the animation part of the cargo doors is out of the question. Thus, I can either have open-bayed construction ships (which would have bee's), or I can have them without the bee's. They'd then work as any other unit, and would build the station, just without any bee animation. - First things first, can that be done? - Can the bees be removed so that when you use a construction ship to build something, it just 'builds'? I'm just getting a few ideas here, nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
LOL I loved that line in the movie, especially how he delivered it  Well frankly, the problem with open doors is that how would the crew get in and out of thier bees without being exposed to space, so I wouldn't go for it unless you could create something that looks like a forcefield keeping the air inside the hanger. But that's just my opinion
the force feild should be easy enough to create
what if you just delete the worker bee sod and dont tell the computer to look for it. then you can use the construction ship and the building will just being to appear as it ususally does. you just dont see the bees doing the work.
You could also have to doors and just let the bees fly through them. Say it's a hologram. At least...that's what i did.

I did the same here for both my mods.
You could paint launch holes for the bees. Like where they come out of a Battlestar. As for animation, I've thought about making it with a texture, but haven't looked into how it might be accomplished. My suggestion for getting rid of the bees is-- don't delete them (the game might crash or display the "bug" when it looks for non-existing sods) instead, make 'em transparent (easy enough with Milkshape). Don't forget to transparent the bee's beam too (making the texture transparent should do it).
Thanks for all the feedback guys, I'll let you know how I get on, and what I decide to do.
I didn't make it!
Ah... I think this can be done though it needs some serious programming. But the const looks kewl with its bees swarming around... What I am having trouble with and which also includes consts, is that they are not warp-capable which is BAD! I once had a mod where consts were warp-capable but, unfortunately, I lost the mod. Does anyone out there know how I could modify editable game files the way that consts have warp-capability? Which files need to be edited?
I know it is possible, and would be found (I think) in the Const.odf file, or the physics for the Construction Ships.
