Hi everyone. I have seen people able to make 50000x50000 sized maps. Well i am trying to make our galaxy, but i think 50000x50000 maps would be to small so i want to make, sit down for this, a 500000x500000+ map:eek:. Can anyone please help me because i have tried every method i know, but can't figure out how to do it. I assume that the way that they can create 50000x50000 maps is the secret to making the map any size you want. To anyone that can help, please post a solution!

well when in editing mode you wont see the differece i think so what i suggetst is first create the size *Not quite sure if that size will work LOL* then save it then edit it, it should be that size when you open the editor mode of A2, be sure you dont place a lot of planets, astroids, direlect ships cause the players will be playin on it which will cause it to lag.

If the only thing you did before getting the error was create that map, try a different one, what I mean is, try the game with one of the stock maps. if it doesn't crash, then something in that map you made has either been done incorrectly, or is not supported by Armada 2's engine. Personally, I would start with smaller maps, like 50,000x50,000. I know that there is at least one member that uses that size and it works. From there, you can increase to the amount that the game can support.

well, it looks like the biggest size is 100000x100000. That is allright. But know i have two more problems with this size. First, can anyone tell me how i can get the stars that are on the grid field to show up over the entire map? I tried using scale sod =, but that didn't work. Also, i need a new background, but i can't figure out how to make it. I need just a black background with stars dotted everywhere. actually, if someone can tell me how to change the starfield size, i can just use a black background, because space is really just a void, with galaxies in it, so an ingame starfield would match the reality of space. Please post if you have an answer.

yer man, i hope u dont plan on making that for multiplayer anything over 20000x20000 is unplayable even for 4 players so yer id say u had best not go over that but if its for instant action i suppose u can do that although, i can't imagine it being fun

Now my question is: Can he realy do that?

I use only 40-50000x50000 maps. That's about as big as my hardware works with smoothly. I know one person said they were able to do a 120000x120000 map. Once I keyed in 50,000x 500,000 in error and it came out real skinny! I didn't try to play it but it did display in mapedit OK.

I was just thinking, I haven't tried it yet, but it might be a better solution. What about scaling everything down smaller? Planets, moons, ships, stations, everything. That way, it "looks" like you're running a bigger map, but without the extra strain on the hardware due to the extra large map.
