Hello, this is K7A with the latest news on my Dogs of War modification. There have been some major changes since the last update over 2 months ago. These changes have added a lot of new features and options when playing the game.

To start off with, I have decided to deal with the massive amount of quality ships included in Dogs of War, by adding a new feature that will allow players to select between different admirals and ship selections. This adds a more strategic option to the game. Each admiral will have it’s pros and cons and ship selection. Each admiral will have a different starbase and station set also. Not all races will have the same amount of admirals’ but each will have at least 2, except for the Borg.

The research process has changed dramatically with the addition of the Admiral feature. Players will research the ship chassis type (i.e. destroyer, battleship etc.) to get the ship in game.

Some ships will have a new option; instead of researching each special weapon players will have the option to upgrade the ship selected. Weapon upgrades are not the only type of upgrade. Players can choose to do a chassis upgrade and actually change the variant of their vessel. So now players can upgrade their Excelsior Class to the Lakota Refit. This feature helps with the massive amount of variants of ships there are. Other upgrades include standard weapon and system upgrades. This feature is the most fun because you can use the upgrades to diversify your strategy.

Another new feature is the flagship option. Each Admiral will have a flagship that must be built in order to keep the fleet progressing. Flagships will start off as lighter ships but then upgrade to the more powerful ships. These ships will not be “god” ships, but they will have some different weaponry and combat options than the regular version. They are the most important unit on the grid.

After playing the version I had in the last update, I found it actually quite like the original a2 but with less ships to deal with. This is because the ship classes were really like the stock a2 ones. Ships now will have a limited amount of photons and will depend on some of the new classes of ships to re-supply them in combat. Repair ships will now be armed and act as a type of combat ship. Assault ships have been removed do to their uselessness. They have been replaced with a different cruiser.

Artillery Ships have become more armed and more shielded but at close range they still prove weaker than most ships. I have added fighters to each race, making them escorts for freighters and diversions for other ships. I have also created the “anti-fighter” class station. These stations will act like a turret but fast firing and accurate. They will have no effect on bigger ships but will be able to stop a wave of fighters fast. Colony Ships have been removed.

The gameplay has been altered making it impossible for the player to command 30 battleships at a time. The number of ships you can control has been restricted. Players might have 1 or 2 battleships but the majority of a fleet will be made up of a compellation of the lesser ships. This mod is set up to be more of a ship-to-ship game, instead of massive fleet to massive fleet game. This also allows strategy to come into play instead of the “build 30 galaxies fast” method of playing. And a minor thing I have removed the ferengi scavenger for good! I have added like 40 plus ships since the last update and maybe 20 new stations.

The playing environment has also changed a bit. I have added over a dozen of new backgrounds. The asteroid fields are different in that some fields will have weak spots than a ship can cut through with phasers. I have added 5 new types of nebulas and made planets background objects.

Due to the Massive upgrades I’m doing to this Mod, the September 18th deadline is not even realistic. But I will say, I expect this to come out sometime this fall.

I trust you want this uploaded to A2Files also? If so (and for future reference) could you post it in the Mod New Thread http://www.gamingforums.com/showthread.php?t=247269 along with this one :) And as for the project itself, it seems to be well done, though a few models (from places I've seen them before) were quite high in relation to poly count. I hope you've reduced them, we wouldn't want such a stunning modification to lag like hell because of high-polied models :) I've taken the liberty of adding this as A2Files News too. ;)
