I just wanted to know what is the best way to add a new race into the gui_global, tech 1 and full tech files. I am working on Sporanis Version 2 which will contain AIP files, sound files and new weapons (and hopefully new ships too!) I cannot seem to get the tech files right and it will not accept the new addition. No matter what I do the game crashes. I've put them first, last - everywhere re-named the beginning letter from s to v with no joy. I.e. s.const to v.const etc. I've kept to the format exactly; I.e. In Tech One **** [ Sporanis Ships] **** v.const.odf 1 vbase.odf // construction ship Etc through the same files ALL in exact order as the file layout goes - or do they have to be different for a new race?? (I noticed some other files began with s so I picked a letter that was not present) I do not want to edit an existing race as I am trying to add my own and some people have been successful so I just need a little guidance. The game crashes when I load the new race. I wanted them to mine biomatter and latinum but now I know that is not possible as to Species 8472 latinum IS biomatter.

My guess would be it doesn't like the first "." (full stop) in the naming. I'd try renaming all the associated files without the dot.

it is the full stop, as the full stop tells the computer that it has two ships there not the one and it goes looking for them both
