Hi all. I sat down not long ago watching Enterprise when i saw the Intrepid (Half saucer class?) I wanted it. FACT! But I haven't been able to find it on this great site that is filefront. So i made this one myself. Its 3532 polys (is that too many for a background ship?). The textures arn't perfect and they have some annoying shadows on them but in game it should look ok. I was thinking about a release but I've never done anything good enough so i would like some feedback first. It doesn't matter if you hate it or love it all coments will be welcome. (Please be constuctive though) Anyway thanks for taking the time to look!:lookaround:

The Shadows are most likely due to the faces not being welded correctly.

As for the poly size, all I am going to say is I would be aiming for something half that size in poly count. But that's me and I am famous for aiming for low poly counts, I rarely use anything over 3000.

Im no modeler by any means...ive done some kitbashing here and there...modified a few models...recolored a few textures...but I think the ship looks tremendous.. Very accurate so far..id def seek a modeler's help with the vertices problem and shadow problem. No offense to Majest :bows: LOLOL, but im of a different school of thinking when it comes to the number of polies. As many on this board should be aware by now..im famous for throwing high poly models into my game, some as high as 15,000 ...most times its the texture resolutions that lag the games engine...keep the textures no higher than 512x512 and you should be cake...for smaller ships 256x256 should suffice....if you need to go larger you can go as high as 1024x1024 but no more...anything more will slow the game down, ridiculously..I've run 3 CGSovereigns at about 9k a piece, mind you, in my game with zero slowdown in combat with several other ships...ive optimized my textures to help prevent some of the slow down...Thats just my two cents.

Cpt.BenSisko;5326373No offense to Majest :bows:

None taken, all I can say is I'm an upcoming game developer with Syf, we are slowly developing our own games and we have looked extensively into how many poly's a game engine and PC can take before lag starts to happen.

However I won't get into it, some have the point of view about high poly models are good in A2, others like me don't. Each and every one of us will ultimately make their own choice. :)

3000+ polygons are a bit much, but I think it could be reduced easily. Very-very nice model anyway, maybe it's the best Intrepid I saw so far.

Well the textures are far from perfect at the moment. I'm still working on them. As for the poly count i have to agree that they could do with being a little lower. Before this i worked on building some low poly stargate models (specificly ancient ships) because on an old pc i did struggle with the bigger models and running speed. I will try and cut them down to 3000 but not sure I'll be able to loose any more than that. P.s. thanks for the comments guys!

Well two things. In one sense that is somewhat higher than either armada game would be happy with, even for a hero ship. I mean mine is 1407 polys and thats pushing it for a ship of its size and use. One question though. Are those the textures from Kenny Z's high poly CGI version because they look very much like them?? If thats the case then you might want to see how well you can render of the detail as the closer you can get it the better.

The textures are made from bitmaps that i found online and converted. I can't remember where I found the pictures though so there may be a permissions issue there. Its the nacelles that are the poly hogs but that said there is probably about 1500 in the rest of the ship. I'm still working on it though, I just dont want to comprimise the look. I guess in game the ammount of detail wont matter all that much. Kinda does to me though.

Yeah just re-model the nacelles with low poly cylinders, less slices. It would have a massive difference to your model. I could see your nacelles being 200-300 poly's each that would cut them down 2/3rds making a huge impact on your overall poly count.

Federation ENT Era Intrepid Class Download, Star Trek: Legacy Ships

If you want them grab the textures from this release of mine. They are in TGA format and rendered off Kenny Z version.
