A name? For the Extra Spicy AIP mod? May I suggest:
Star Trek: Armada II - Ultimate Desperate Acts, Part I?
Because more than a few desperate moments occurred whenever I was not paying full attention to my game. If I gave the AI the slightest opportunity, it gleefully took it. It is frightening to me to consider that I built a fleet of Galaxy class and they lasted all of five minutes defending my base area.
BTW, pay no attention at all to Ameba calling Freyr a 'sorcerer'. I do not think he really meant it. Besides if we follow Ameba's suggestion and burn Freyr at the stake, we don't get to see how the Player does as the Borg against a StarFleet controlled by Freyr's AI.
I'm delighted to announce a public beta of the Upgrade projects latest release, Vanilla Ultimate; Desperate acts.
As with all Upgrade Project releases this really just tries to upgrade the stock campaign a bit. You might notice some differences in graphics compared to the original campaign :-
I don't think I need to label the stock and upgraded pictures.
And we have a revamped AI. Its had a small amount of field testing, and some people complained about the level of difficulty. That has been corrected by revisiting the Armada II difficulty level option slider.
You now have three difficulty levels. Pushover, Easy and Merciless.
Pushover, as the name suggests is fairly easy. Its crippled by all but preventing the AI from using its special weapons and reducing the damage of incoming fire by 30%. And making the AI spend three times more for each ship. And making it spend three times the amount of time building it. And it gives you a 20% bonus when mining. Complain this is to hard and you just going to get ignored. :)
Easy, as the name might suggest is fairly... easy. The AI can use its specials most of the time, but its crippled by having to pay double for everything it builds, and it takes it twice as long to build it. This is a good stepping stone for those people who want something harder than the pushover but are hiding from the Merciless AI.
Merciless is a crude, feeble, slow, stupid, fragile, soft, merciful, pacifist and rudimentary approximation of how I used to play online. It does not cheat and provides a worthy opponent for the most people.
One final word before grabbing yourself a copy, this is a release candidate, not a final release. There *may* be some bugs present. If you find any problems please report them so I can fix them.
Installation : This needs to be unzipped into a stock copy of A2 with the 1.1 patch installed. Installing it on a modified installation may have unpredictable and undesirable results. Don't blame me if you ignore this!
- Armada II Defaults to a 16 bit resolution, and some textures are 32bit. You need to pick one of the 32 bit resolutions in the graphics options or the colors will appear mottled.
- The cinematic for the first federation mission is broken. This will be fixed for the official public release.
Sweeet! I really enjoyed playing against the draft versions you sent me previously. This promises to be a lot of fun.
The file is corrupted for me.
I have just done a test download and it appears to be ok. Try downloading it again.
Nope. Still noning.
