Well I like a lot of people here have been interested in doing "JJVerse" or "Trek2.0" stuff since i've seen the movie. However without any schematics (official or otherwise) of the Enterprise that appeal to me, I decided to free hand some other random ships. This first ship is inbetween the Kelvin and Enteprise, I don't think i'm going to put the Nacelle cap thingies that are on the top of the Enterprise, so to signify that this is an earlier ship (and polygon limitations!) Here are some pics, I plan to do more eventually!

Thanks, i've begun messing around with the hull plating. Aztec patterns to come aswell. Theres about 7 panelling textures there lol. It's nearly impossible to make out just 1. However I think it works fine to make a busy looking panelling texture, the aztec pattern on top should make it all clearer and better though, don't bother trying to follow whats going on in this pattern ;)

Also reduced the polycount by a few hundred, still way too much but I don't think it's too much of a problem as this ship is an explorer and not very combat savvy...

Oh yes, real quality work from our very own Fireball. Really unique direction you've taken on this new build.

Thanks Jet, appreciate it. I've begun to try detailing things, looking at refrences, this is much like doing a TMP era ship texturing wise, while the modelling remains very simular to TOS but with some subtle differences. Not sure if i'm happy about whats going on up top or not.

It looks pretty freakin' fantastic, actually. I think it just needs a second texture applied to the top of the superstructure (like on the other-movie, TMP Connie).... it's a shame there aren't more screencaps available yet; I'm specifically thinking of the long shot panning from inside the bridge viewscreen up and over the Enterprise....

I like the shape but I think the texture may need lightened up a bit. Maybe tick up the bright 15 points with 5 points more contrast. Theres no way for the A2 engine to try and emulate the reactive specular of the enterprises hull. In fact I don't think theres a home rig out there that could do it in a game setting.

Although this ship is niether completely Kelvin or Enterprise, i'm going towards are more Enterprise texturing scheme.

Thanks for the advice, I used those exact settings actually, the contrast (Even of that small of a value) really does wonders. I agree with the A2 engine, or for that matter any engine emulating the way the speculars were in the movie (or TMP for that matter). I'll do my best though. In the meantime i've continued detailing the lower dome area. Think it's pretty much done except for a few tweaks here and there perhaps. Next is probably the saucer Rim, then I gotta do panel lines and azteccing eventually too.
