By design your own ship, I assume that you are taking about designing and modelling it in a 3d software application. How much exerience in 3d modelling do you have? What software so you have access to and use?

Well, you need

-Notepad, to edit the ODF files. -Adobe Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro or Gimp for creating textures in TGA format. -3D's Max or Milkshape for creating the models. -The map editor for creating maps. -SOD importer/exporter for MilkShape -Storm3D Viewer to view your ships -Armada 2, obviously -And a creative mind

Hope this helps:)
