Yes through talking with meda, we decided to make a sod importer that imports all sod models instead of just stock. We ended up not having to but first let's go over a couple things.
1. Permissions: You must NOT under any circumstances use others models and change them then proclaim them as your own. Us modders are not stupid and will find out and you will be very unpopular among all on this site and others. You could kiss your a2 modding career goodbye.
2. Assimsoft's importer was made to only let you use stock A1 and A2 models. The reasoning behind that was so no one could steal ones created by modders and use them as their own. But some higher up modellers already have a sod importer for milkshape and I believe if some one should have the ability to load sod's in milkshape then so should we. A member of these forums who shall remain nameless has told me that Fleet Ops has hijacked some models, changed them, and used them as their own. But because most didn't know of a way to import sod's besides the none stock models, it was not spoken much of.
3. The reason I am showing the a2 community this (besides the reasons above) is because I think we are all adult enough to not go to the point where we would steal models on this site. And we should be able to use it for personal reasons if we wish. Any person with google.com access could have found the links to this but so far no one that I know of has.
That being said, here is how it works. Firstly, it is NOT an importer for milkshape. It is a basic program that loads models and you can export them as other formats. The textures must be in the same directory as the model in order to be loaded. So you could import a sod, then export it as a milkshape usable format like MOD. Then you may have your way with the model in milkshape. The link is http://www.frost-works.com/stc/conversionversions/CVArchive/CV0.7.5/index.html
I really hope you take the things said above to heart. This is your only warning. Please dont make me regret this.
You could even ask for permission to edit a model and without having to get the non .sod model. Again, I reiterate the above. Don't do anything stupid and ruin it for every one.:)
A word of warning, if anybody is caught stealing models at any point then that work will be deleted from this site and they will almost certainly be banned.
You can't not know if your taking someone elses model apart, so there are absolutely no excuses here. You MUST have permission before you make a mod containing any part of somebody elses work.
Erm... I'm keeping an eye on this thread, and also stand by what Freyr has said.
personally, i can see how this could be a good thing (for evaluation purposes, or tweaking some of your own models when youve got a bit excited and deleted the .ms3d file after exporting to .sod format - dont ask how i managed that! - etc) but this could be opening a whole can of worms, nasty nasty worms... not to say that its not a good idea, but only when used responsibly for the correct purpose, yeah?
I am ok with people doing this, however I am going to be keeping a very close eye on it and any file we get in that looks or feels dodgy simply wont be going up.

Yes, and it may very well go farther then that. I.E. ban or other consequences if the administors find it to be a hijacked or stolen model. And if it looks similiar to another model then surely some one will check it's legitimacy.
meh. well I'm not truly fussed, it's always been easy enough to convert any sod just now it's super simple. I know it will lead to some dodgy reworking of other people's work but lets face it, that happens already, if someone is going to be ripping of other's work they'll find a way.
Well they won't easily get past ssa or any one else with some modding skills for that. It's not worth it to risk getting banned. I wouldn't advise even thinking about it.
The cake is a lie. There is no cake.

My view: Achilles is right, if it is gonna happen, it's gonna happen, but I don't thiknk this shouldn't not be used. If it is accesible to the general public, then others may take it for their own use in another place we might not even know of, so if it is used here, the possibilities for reducing those who try and cheat will be better, so in a sense it would be better to make it something we can "legalise". If it helps modders or modellers kick off, I say let them have it - we always need and want more people and I appareciate things like this. Yes, we will have to do more investigating, but if it means more submits, I'm happy to do the extra work.
catching dodgy files isn't so much a worry, doesn't take long before someone notices the theft of a material and reports it then they get the full wrath of the mods and the community, but yeah better we all know about this now than those dubious people thinking they have something that we dont know about.
Clear message : We know you can do it, we'll be watching...
