Ah the wonders of high detailed textures!!
Anyway, enoguh self adulation. This time may I present the Kata Class. Details of this are (text paragraph taken from original website. www.startrekaustralia.com which is where the original high poly model resides.)
"The KATA CLASS is an Emergency Transport. Designed to travel at extremely high warp for extended periods, the KATA CLASS can be used to transport emergency supplies or personel to distant sectors with minimal travel time. The strange design of the vessel maximizes the efficiency of the warp field, thus enabling it to travel at extremely high velocities. The KATA CLASS is even faster then the PROMETHEUS CLASS, which is touted as the fastest ship in the fleet. An earlier prototype of the KATA was used to ferry Admiral McCoy to the ressurrected Captain Kirk to perform the lifesaving operation of removing the borg implant in Kirk's brain, an operation that no-one else was capable of performing. Although McCoy was in his late hundreds at the time, he instructed Dr. Julian Bashir on how to perform the surgery. KATA CLASS starships are also used as deep space recon and science vessels."
Anyway, a bit of a story behind this one. I received an email not to long ago which had a zip file attached to it. Inside this zip file was a single SOD model file and TGA texture file (no other files included). After using UU3d to open the file I found this styling of model (baring in mind that I new where the original came from). Suffice to say, I won't submit anything to AFC with no readme. The model file was 1480 polys and was badly presented (around 40 seperate objects which were ungrouped. The mesh itself was a mess and would have required alot of work). I won't say who sent me this model simply because they may get in trouble for not providing ANY credit for the original version.
With this in mind I decided to build my own which came out at around 1053 polys, and uses 2 high res texture files. I think this could be used as an assault vessel, landing vessel or repair vessel. It seems heavily armed with no less than 12 forward facing pulse phasers, but no torpedo launchers are evident. The ship itself doesn't seem very large either but still. It looks quite good and is quite different from the normal styling.
Credit goes to Jorg Gerlach for the original concept/design, mesh and textures. Andrew J Hodges receives credit for the reworking of the original to include a bridge module and retexturing. This low poly model is scratch built using the refit release as its base for both model and texture set. Anyway, heres a couple of pics:
nice. what era is this ship from? looks very TOS to me. oh well, still gd ship, excellent modelling skills MAP.
I think after reading the original details for this class it should be post TNG (DS9 styling).
