How large is the largest poly count ship A2 can use without lagging. I'm asking this question because I had 12 11k ships on my screen without lag and my computer is 1 1/2 years old.

IMO game engine is not really the limiting factor, its the PC running it. (as you just noticed)

IE, a 133MHz PC with a 16MB graphics card can take considerabely less punishment than a 3+ GHz PC with a 512MB graphics card. What you need to do is decide what sort of PC most people have and go for that.

In short there are two extremes, the people that have a uber high spec PC and the people that only have a ten year old pile of scrap, both of which are likely to be very vocal with the people in the middle saying very little.

The people with the new PC's want to be able to use them and the people with the scrap demand everything work on there PC's. There is a happy comprimise somewhere in between.

Good luck in finding it :)

You're probably best off finding the mid-ground, but I always tend to take the low-end route when it comes to making models to work with A2. Although the PC is the number one aspect of performance, the way that a game is written can make all the difference.

Hmmmm, well through personal experience I have had scotchy's galaxy class converted and generally speaking the only the game seems to lag with this kind of model is when its destroyed (sortable but lowering the chunk size), as having thousands of polys on screen does kill the pc's frame rate.
