Hey, folks. Long-time STA2 player, newbie modder.

What I'm trying to do is create a Subspace Shockwave-style weapon that doesn't kill the ship that uses it. I've searched the forums, and I've downloaded the Gravity Strike and tried to futz with it. No dice. I've also taken apart the Fek'lhr Repulsion Field, trying to make it work. I haven't been able to.

Might someone have code around that could help? I'm just trying to duplicate the functionality of the Shockwave in a smaller arc--it's going on a new superweapon for a mod that my friends and I play privately--that doesn't kill the casting ship. This has got to have been done somewhere...any help would be appreciated.

Cheers, Ed

Sorry about that, I don't have permissions on the forum so I can't delete that but it will be gone shortly.

There are plenty of people around here, but not all of us know how to help :) A lot of people are from the US, so give it 18 hrs and I would expect that someone more knowledgable will have solved this.

From my quick look I guess that the shockwave is hardcoded to blow up the ship that launches it and hence unchangeable so its down to creating a new weapon.

Yeah, I know. I'm from the US too; I just don't sleep. :-P

And yes, the rwave object is hardcoded to blow up the ship that launches it. Hence my question. =)

I've messed extensively with the repulsion field weapon, which I'm sure is the key to solving this. I just don't know enough to modify it the way it needs to (multi-targeting is beyond me, as is creating a wave form), and Westwood's BBOM isn't giving me any hints on it.

There were a few "Shockwave" mods recently (moded after the Romie sensor weapon) that you might look at. You could try editing the texture for it and using the fireRadius command to narrow it down, but I don't know if it'll work. Also, if you have the DomUlt mods, there are allot of good weapon modifications in there.

Thats multidirectional though, and the shockwave only goes fowards.

Hmm. I'm looking at the sensor wave weapons, and I've been trying to futz with them. They work great -- but the problem I'm having is restraining it to a cone of fire instead of a ring.

Yeah, I meant you could try the fireArc command, not the fireRadius one. Like I said, don't know if it'll work but it's worth a try. And there may be a way to fix the texture/sprite so it only shows a small arc. Anyway here are the commands: // Restrict the Fire Arc restrictFireArc = 1 // Use this fire arc restriction fireArc = 0.25

Er...that'll make it only fire forward, not affect the wave ODF that comes out of it.

Or am I mistaken?
