Trying to figure out how this works.

How do I make ships and stations I've put into the map already, stay and be assigned to the team they're down for?

I mean, I put a whole federation base in some asteroid fields, all say Team 1 Percieved Team 1... but when I start the game, all the ships and stations are gone and another team has taken that start point.

Freakin' weird, any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

The only problem is the assigned team. To put it simply, you'll want to have give that team the number above the max players on that map (ie, on a four player map, you'd make this extra team be team 9). That should sort out your problem, if not, come back.

Erm, what if I want to be able to control that team? So say I had a map where one side was a heavily fortified base, all they have to do is build ships and crush the opposition...

and the other side had to be flexible and build quickly to build up a strong enough force...

How would I get the ships and stations in the base to be owned by one of the players?

Ok, let's see: Say a map has four starting places (forget about your extra side). What you want to do is position each starting place. Now what you want to do is give them a team, say one, then, make sure the position you pick is position 1 (camera_1). That might work, try it.

I know how to set up starting places, what I'm trying to do is get a team to start with units on it's side at the start of the game :)

A2 will not let you start a game with already placed units, map units.

Well, you have to do it like in the missions. Place the ships and stations and make them derelict (no crew) and like has been said, make a four player map and set the abandoned items to team 5 (you have to make sure to hit ctrl-r and set slots 5-8 to empty) Then whoever finds them first can take them over…

And a neat option is to use a non-used team and put a Ferengi trade station there to get the AI using as a jump start. In other woprds if you make a 4 player map you'd put the Ferengi stations under team 5. In an 8 player use team 0. These neutral teams are left alone by the AI but of course you can blast them if you want.

Two ways to do this-- 1) You can start with the map editor, assign all your units, then switch to play (CtrlM or whatever the command is set to). I suggest you save game at that point. You'll then be able to start from that save location whenever you want (similar to loading a map). 2) Alternately, you can create a race.odf with all the ships/stations you want as your starting units. You won't be able to place them exactly where you want, but they'll be randomly placed at your start loc.
