I saw this in a post recently and I decided to put together a library of mods for a friend. I'm putting in ships, stations, races, map objects, etc. Can anyone recommend some mods to throw in. I'm also wondering what some of the popular mods are in each of the catagories. I'm assuming size is no limit to the library but at the moment it's 16 gigs. I may get a drive that holds a terabite. Again any and all suggestions are welcome. Also would anyone recommend the collection of 2000 maps thats on the site? Also would anyone like to see a mini downloadable library for some of the most popular mods? I think it would be a good idea?

staingar - A;4909097a mini downloadable library for some of the most popular mods

Seems like something the Starfleet Department of Redundancy Department would put together-- if people want popular mods, those mods are popular for a reason. They can find them through the 'search' function. Not to mention the various issues in credit and permission implicit in such a downloadable version of a "library" of mods.

Your efforts might be better expended in putting these mods together in a workable fashion, or fixing mods that would be popular if they weren't broken and useless to anyone who can't fix them. That's a list I had been hoping someone would put together for a while, actually. It'd give us something to work on if there's nothing else to be done or we're between projects.

What's some mods you would like to see in particular re-done and I can talk to the makers? As far as the library I mentioned for my friend it's just something on a flash drive I planned on putting together.

Sorry to double post but as for my idea I was thinking something along this line. You could talk to the makers of some of the most recently popular mods uploaded. As for the rest of the mods you could have people submit files to the library for consideration. Just an idea to give some people something to do and make a library for people who don't really know alot about the mods.

There's only one that comes to mind off the top of my head, staingar: it's the Yuzzhan Vong addon for SWFC. It's been discussed previously in other threads, and I know it was a very frustrating 'fail' for a lot of people.

Another one would be Naval Armada. Westworld never did finish that mod. I'd love to see someone pick that concept up and run with it.

I think the idea has merrit but what about this alternative, a list html wise that links to the different most popular mods rather than a massive download file that would take like a day to download?

I would suggest that the following mods be put on any list of most popular mods:

  • Art of War
  • Borg Incursion: Vital Responces
  • Babylon 5 Armada 2

I also think only available mods not WIP mods should be on any said list.

Well there is a Seaquest mod being made by Rod over at MSFC, at least he was and I have no doubt if it has been paused that he will continue it at a later date.

well you cant put all great mods together and release it as a new mod. to many problems with permissions and also a too huge file.

a list with download links to the best mods listed in different categories, that would make sense yes. But im against it, because then, those mods which arent in the list will be overlooked. and not everyone is of the same opinion of the question which mod is the best? also when someone releases a new mod, you have to check immediately if thats better than something equal you have in your list.

Good advice, this is. The list of things I suggested was not meant to be anything other than suggestions. Not everything on my list will be to everyone's taste or liking. If nothing else, the suggestions will show us what we do not want.

BTW, ALL of your mods are FREQUENTLY, LOUDLY, and HIGHLY recommended by me(And I ain't the only one doing so, either! ;)). I strongly encourage new modders to use them in game, as well as use them as an excellent example for how to organise a mod for public release.

Maybe not one download per say just put links to all of them in one place kinda like a starter kit for moding the game.
