Okay, so it seems I've had a few requests from various people for permission to use models/textures and other files from BI2. In retrospect perhaps I should have posted this sooner, but no matter, so I'll post now just to give the information out so that people don't need to request permission directly. By reading this below you'll be able to follow the necessary guidelines which is customary to using other peoples work (and this applies directly to materials I've released):
Example: A modder wants to use models found in a mod or project I've released for their own personal mod WHICH IS NOT BEING PUBLICALLY DISTRIBUTED OR RELEASED.
- On this I do not require anyone to contact me and materials are there for complete usage in any manner. This includes all reconversions to any game format, or sectional (part of) break up (seperating texture files from the models and reusing for another model). Remember though that this means that anything that IS used MUST NOT be released in any way shape or form to the public without checking below first.
PUBLIC RELEASED MATERIAL
EXAMPLE: A modder has just made a fighter based special for my Typhon class and wants to release it as a stand alone mod via website to the playing public.
- Bare in mind I do include a readme file with everything I publically release myself so theres no excuse for modders not to check the credits which I always include in the readme file. As long as this is done and the same credits which I included are also included in a subsequent readme that the modder includes (with an additional credit for themselves depending on what they did, no matter how small). Then I do not require prior permission contact.
Basically put if you copy the credits I provided in my readme and include them with your own release then all will be well.......and trust me when I say, I do check new mods that have materials from any project or mod I've previously made.
EXAMPLE: Someone wants to convert my Achilles Class (the first one I released) to another game format, or reconvert to SOD after rehardpointing it themselves.
- This is perhaps, the only time I will require people to contact me directly. The reason for this is more to know where the models are going.
EXAMPLE: A modeller wants to rip apart several models I've released and put them back together to form a new ship or station.
- Now I want it made clear that if anyone gets hold of the already unconverted models that I've previously made and released (Tactical Cube is a prime example), then you are free to experiment (as thats what the release of unconverted material is made for). However, if you wish to re-release anything to the playing public, then you MUST INCLUDE APPROPRIATE CREDIT in a readme to all those involved (be warned that I do not make my own textures so you MUST find out where the original textures were obtained from).
Now reading this, I dont' find anything unreasonable there, so lets stick to these guidelines above. As an example. Nico Weigand, I_E_Maverick and Wal, created a highly accurate Tactical Cube model which is currently hosted over on www.scifi-meshes.com Now to remake my own cube with better, more detail tactical armour I wanted to use Nico's model to render up some images to use as armour textures. Originally I was told "no" immediately, but after providing a complete reason why I needed them (6 months of perseverance) Nico changed his mind and I was granted permission. So you all see why I have created the guidelines above. It took me long enough to get soem of these permissions and I don't want any new modellers to face flaming here or in private because of some minor oversight.

we i guess all contacted M.A.P. abut using ships/stations in our mods so he mentioned a few ppl was asking so he was talking about us and mayb other ppl so there shouldnt be anymore me's or me's
Yes, yes and yes. Plus I've had a few requests via MSN and my older email address. At least this way everyones aware of the facts without the need to contact me if its not entirely necessary.
Well the thing is I DO NOT HAVE studio max and I CAN'T reverse convert sod so I'm at the mercy of those who have it to do it for me.
