Is it possible to alter the way the Borg build their base so that instead of building seperate, discrete items as they do now, they instead build everything attached to the Nexus?

I was thinking in terms similar to how the science stations build their pods.

If anyone knows if this is possible, and how to do it, please let me know. I think that it'd look awesome and much more Borg.

its possible just tricking, there would need to be build hardponts such as this podHardpoints = "hp51" "hp52" "hp53" "hp54"

those are the hp where the pods are built, if you were to put hps on the borg base, you'll be able to do this

yes and no.

Yes as in it is possible to make a borg player build his base in this fashion, and no, because the AI wouldn't construct it correctly.

The reason that this would happen is simply because its known as a "modular" station. The problem with the armada engine is it was never designed to have modular units, therefore whilst you can add them in it is quite hard to get them to work correctly even for the player alone.

Major Payne is right. If you ONLY play Borg as I do this is OK, of course. The AI gets dumb in other areas too. Cloaked planets I've built work for the player but the AI doesn't use the cloak but it will use planetary weapons well! The AI uses special weapons poorly when they are put on planets too.

you could have 2 seperate borg one for this idea and one for the original so the AI can work.

well yes. There is that way but the AI would build the entire thing before the player did. Also modular structures in A2 are incredibly difficult to get working.

In what way are they difficult to get working? Mostly in alignments or what?

Axin. You need to understand that aside from the AI not actually researching the "addon" modular sections, there is a bug in the AI which, when in operation means that if a section of your modular station is destroyed then the AI will actually attempt to build the next ship in its build list in the position where your modular station section was (hope that doesn't sound confusing), which means you need to create a special kind of highly destructive shockwave which must destroy the entire structure. It was fairly easy to do in A1 but in A2 it needs alot of additional working to get it running. I also don't think it'll work with shipyard modular structures (I've made several test runs but I think the shipyard classlabel effects it. Strange though because it never effected it in A1). Mind you. Theres nothing stopping you from trying it.

Major- I've been trying to recreate the old Borg Queen's Lair from A1 with no results. I can take the Fed research station scaled up and using the old A1 borg yard 1 as the pod it will build that but the pod will not research/build a ship. The trick seems to be in modifying a pod.odf file to goose it to work as it did in A1.

So would it be easier to do in A1? I only just got it, and haven't really had much of a chance to look at it.

The other thing was, I was only looking at this from a human-player POV. I thought it'd be a bit much for the AI to handle.
