I'm thinking of making the Nova class ship my fscout. What does everyone think about this..she isn't well armed and not incredibly strong..but I hate that stupid Venture class scout from Insurrection..whats the point of shuttlecraft if you have that thing..so and it would make me build scout ships and make more use of the Nova model in the long run...
I like the Nova (it seems to me it's kinda a science scoutship), but is it technically small enough to be a scout? I think the Venture's to similar to the Delta Flyer, but fits the roll. Is this for your personal mod, or one you're releasing?
The cake is a lie. There is no cake.

Any vessel can be a scout, so long as it has a decent speed and sensor array, but obviously most ships in the fleet have more important duties (you're not gonna have a Galaxy class exploring this and that nebula as it simply has better things to do...like look cool) but I think the Nova is a perfect choice. It's geared up for long range travel, not too powerful and would fit in nicely.
i made the nova my scout ship. the standard one is more of a fighter to me. scouts/exploration vessels have to be able to supply themselves as they may be out for a long time - the venture is way too small for that.
The Nova Class is a nice choice for a scout ship. It's small (around the defiant's size) and it's maneuvarable too. Anyway, the scout in my personal mod is the oberth and the nova is the advaned scout. The Venture is just cannon fodder to me. lol
I like to have the nova as the scout ship in my projects, shuttles are just too small for long range scouting operations and on a game that focuses on fleet based actions. I mean realistically, if a shuttle came across an enemy armada it has no hope of escaping to tell anyone about it.
Nova makes a great scout. Sort of a level III scout, after you upgrade from the Oberth through the Tzinski. Unless y'all don't like the Tzinski. It's sort of a TNG version of the Oberth (which only makes sense if you disregard the frequent re-appearance of the Oberth class starship in TNG).
What is the role of a scout in a ship-based science fiction game? The same as any scout for any military force anywhere. Scouts serve as the eyes and ears on the battlefield for the commander. A scout's job is to locate the enemy, determine his strength and intentions, and report back to the commander. A scout's tools for doing this are a good set of sensors, a very good radio, and a willingness to saddle up and ride. A scout should only use his weapons for defense and to break contact with enemy forces actively looking for him. I was assigned to a scout platoon in the US Army in Europe for my first duty assignment.
One of the things about A2 I dislike is the way the scoutships generally get used by players. Not the player's fault. The game forces one to build fleets of battleships because battleships are the only thing that can survive a fleet engagement. Scouts are seen as expendable and not worth the effort because they die so very quickly.. I hadn't thought of using the Nova to replace the Venture because, well, because I use Defiants in the scout role. They are certainly cheap enough and they have a lot higher survivability than the Ventures. Still, using the Nova to replace the Venture is a good idea and one I intend to check out. Thank you.
The Nova Class is a Starfleet scout ship. Classed as a surveyor her mission profile is to chart starsystems in less hasardous regions of space on missions lasting around 1.5 year at most. She is well armed with Phasers for her size but carries a limited number of Photon Torpeados. The spaceframe is based on the Defient pathfinder before the borg caused a major redesign. In combat the ship is very agile at sublight and able to run at high warp speeds up warp 9.2 for 18 hours.
