Looking over the right hand menu of Armada2Files, the current projects that are listed there, are as follows: Those Released:

  • Alliances
  • Star Ocean Project
  • Borg Incursion
  • Dominion Ultimate
  • Fleet Operations
  • Freespace
  • Klingon Academy II

My only query from the above list, is the Klingon Academy project. The link in the project profile is dead. It should be this one: Klingon Academy Total Conversion, Star Trek: Armada 2 Downloads, Star Trek: Armada 2 Total Conversions And those that are still in the WIP stage:

  • Future Tense
  • Year of Fire
  • Age of Expansion (B5)
  • Battlefleet Gothic
  • Battlestar Galactica
  • Dogs of War
  • Empires and Federation II
  • Future Wars
  • Stargate Project
  • Tactical Assault
  • Zero Hour

Now, Future Tense is still in production, as is Dogs of War, Future Wars, and Zero Hour. What I don't know about, are the others... Year of Fire I haven't seen or heard anything of in a while. This project looks promising (and totally different), yet seemed to have dropped dead. Same goes for the BSG & Stargate projects. They had a fanbase around them, but have since gone quiet... Battlefleet Gothic is another one that just went dead for no apparent reason. As for Empires and Federation II, that I believe is still in a slow production, and I was under the impression that Tactical Assault (to an extent) has already been release (Dominion & Romulans anyway) so why not in the 'released' section? Anyway, does anyone know what is going on with these 'silent' projects at all?

Yeah the Year of Fire mod has been quiet for ages now. The Battlestar Armada (BSG) mod is still going strong, its just that the main activity is on the mods website/forums. I'm still working on getting the Stargate Project back up and running, but it's a slow and difficult process. I thought that the version of Tactical Assault was a Beta, so it hasn't really been finished yet.

Ahem, Tycoon, the link in the project should not be that one. Read the name. It doesn't say KA2, it says KATC. That was the precursor to KA2, made for Armada 1 back in 2003. Directing people to that file would be misleading, as it isn't the right mod to start with.

Tycoon;4348492My only query from the above list, is the Klingon Academy project. The link in the project profile is dead.

As noted, KA2 isn't the same as KA.

Year of Fire I haven't seen or heard anything of in a while. This project looks promising (and totally different), yet seemed to have dropped dead.

As far as I know, Year of Fire was the brainchild of iOSYS, who has since gone off the radar. That doesn't mean the mod's been cancelled, just that the modder chiefly responsible for the mod hasn't been seen 'round these parts in a long time. A lack of news doesn't indicate anything one way or another.

Same goes for the BSG & Stargate projects. They had a fanbase around them, but have since gone quiet...

Quiet doesn't mean dead. Greathor is one of the lead modders on the BSG mod, and I see score1_uk and others from the Stargate Project still around the forums frequently. All kinds of things happen with mods and I'd rather not see the community be caught in a rush to judgment simply because things are quiet. Sometimes these projects go off on their own and nobody is obliged to come back to A2Files if they're more comfortable someplace else. News usually trickles back one way or another-- sometimes I go looking for news. Most times I don't find out much.

Battlefleet Gothic is another one that just went dead for no apparent reason.

As noted, Ragnar has better things to do. Let's face it, any sane person ranks "modding" well below the survival needs of daily operations. I'd worry about anyone who puts "my mod!" in their overwhelming life ambitions. Ragnar's doing it right. School has to come first.

As for Empires and Federation II, that I believe is still in a slow production

There's an active thread in the forums presently about E&F2. Terradyhne's been intermittent in updates and I'm more inclined to be patient because his past work was some of the first, and still some of the best, that I've ever downloaded.

and I was under the impression that Tactical Assault (to an extent) has already been release (Dominion & Romulans anyway) so why not in the 'released' section?

A demo is not a release. By the same token, Art of War has released three parts of the five that go into it (although its complete absence from the Supported Mods section is something I feel terribly about being unable to change despite my so-called powers). So it would not technically be a supported mod until released in full. At least, according to my interpretation (see above, "so-called powers").

The fact is, the "in progress" section of the Supported Mods column was put there for the dual purposes of giving the mod teams a way to inform the modding community, and to give the community something to hope for from the mod teams, maybe even join in and help out. I was never fond of the idea of Supported Mods anyway-- it implies that we ONLY support total conversions that change everything but the programming code. A2Files supports EVERY mod we upload unless it's stolen or intended for profit, in whole or in part.

That being said, the current state of that Supported Mods column is something I wish desperately that I had the ability to change (thus demonstrating the wisdom of the FileFront system, in that they restrict my power and thus my desire and ability to abuse it-- mwa hahaha :daddy: ).

Just to be clear, while I already do lots around here anyway, but I don't have access to manipulating the underlying structure of the Supported Mods section for one reason or another. If I did, I'd ask you all very kindly to provide me all the complaints you have regarding any given Supported Mod, and I'd do my utmost to see to it that broken links and dead pages and outdated pictures or files were set right.

I like to think, however, that those mods we haven't heard from in some time are simply surprises waiting to happen. The old adage that "no news is good news" simply has to apply to A2Files. Otherwise, well.... not much is ever really going on around here. I kind of like the fact that we're neither over-popular nor completely dead as a community. There remains that critical mass of modders and mod appreciation specialists around here, sufficient enough to make A2Files someplace people like to come back to. And thanks to the near-infinite capacity of Freyr to keep them from closing us down, they'll always be welcome when they return.

However, nobody will ever make money from a mod on A2Files. Nobody will ever be able to sustain their lifestyle exclusively from modding. Because not only is that in our forum rules, but game production only pays well if you come out with something new --and at that, something new for a shiny console. Again, I believe anyone who thinks that modding is a substitute for income, or happiness, or anything else, really needs to be shown the error of their ways. This is a hobby, a pastime, a diversion from the real. Nothing in A2Files will ever be able to replace the necessities of education or employment. I'd love if they paid me as much to mod this place as my employers do, but that's not gonna happen (and if it did, I'd want a bigger office) :naughty:

So don't let the lack of updates discourage you. I say there's no harm in looking forward to those mods you really want to see until they're either yours or not meant to be. And for those of you either working on ANY mods or even just "in the know", pass word along and we will post news items. Even if all you're doing is building turrets. If it's a new mesh, a new set of textures, a new artificial intelligence.... spread the word.

Seriously, tell us what you're doing and we'll post a news item. No kiddin'. Not everyone reads the forums all the time. Best advertising around, for free, and all you need to do is use the handy "submit a news item" tab on the A2Files main page. The more we know, the more everybody finds out.

Noted also. :) [quote=the Starfleet Kid;4348801]A demo is not a release.
True, but like you said with Art of War, I would have had that down as supported rather than in progress, for the simple reason, that it isn't listed as a beta or demo. I don't really know about Tactical Assault either... Seems there isn't much more Yacuzza could add to the Dominion and Romulan sides? [quote=the Starfleet Kid;4348801]The fact is, the "in progress" section of the Supported Mods column was put there for the dual purposes of giving the mod teams a way to inform the modding community, and to give the community something to hope for from the mod teams, maybe even join in and help out.

I understand where you are coming from with this, but the way I see it, it is the Total Conversions (or big projects anyway) that should be listed. Maybe not have them where they are now, but on another page somewhere? The A2Upgrade Project should go there too, as should Thunderfoot's Physic Stuff. Not Total Conversions no, but they do make a difference to the game. I would if I'd seen him on the forums in the past month or so.... wonder what he's up to.

As the Starfleet Kid said, I'm doing exams at the minute, but hopefully I should start it back up over summer. Hard to think its been nearly a year since I started it, thought I'd have it done in a few months :uhm:

Yeah, Im still working on the BSA mod. Took a few months out to put a small SG mod together also. Once that is done I will get all the permissions to release and that will be the SG mod sorted. BSA is slow at the min due to real life issues etc. Every few weeks we seem to get something extra sorted so it is still moving along.
