Well, as far as established etiquette is concerned your probably the persons that's going to establish it as not many people make wireframes. =p

Personally, If I had created an model without a wireframe and someone finished the job off by producing a decent button i'd be quite happy. We don't list credits for every piece of work in a screenshot/POTD etc so I don't see any substantive moral difference in using a picture of someones model in a button or wireframe as long as you do clearly say in your readme that it was created by whomever.

Should I get permission to make buttons and wireframes for third party ships and stations? I plan to give credit for sure

When I made my buildbutton packs, I included the creators of the ships used just to be sure. I suggest you do the same ;)

True that.

I'd recommend including a reference to where each ship you've wireframed / build-buttoned can be found on A2Files. Since obviously a "utility mod" like this is going to depend on other people having access to the same ships, you'll want them to know where to find them. And that way you sort of have to mention who made those ships (or stations, even), which would count for credit.

The day we start seeing mods with "You must get permission to make a buildbutton for me", especially from those mods from modders who are too lazy to put together a bloody build button / wireframe, and someone else can run the place 'cuz I quit.

Thanks, folks. Pretty much done with the Fed build buttons. I'll do the wireframes next, then on to the Klingons. (I always mod one race at a time) I have included my button for KMerse's Century Class (my favorite ship) below. I can easily tell what ship it's for, is it clear enough for you guys?

The wireframes will be a top-down view of the ship, with the icons for engines, shields, weapons, etc. listed under it or beside it. The icons will be the same as the ones in the ship description window. The icons will change color to show the damage to those systems. I am undecided if the parts of the ship will change as well.

Like the new build button style - and the wireframe sounds like a good idea. Personally, I wouoldn't have any parts of the ship/station change; I always though that looked horrible. Kepp up the good work

I would't say you need permissions or even credits for making buildbuttons and wireframes of released ships. But wouldnt it be nice for the downloaders to know, which ship these buttons / wireframes are made for?

But if anyone publishes screenshots of my ships - please paste my watermark on them!

Spoiler: Show
lol, dont take that last sentence serious

lol. Actually a few of yours are in my personal build, Fehres, so you should see them soon. I think I'll put them out as packages. Fed buttons and wireframes all together, then klingon, etc.

If anybody wants one for a particular ship, post it here, and I'll try to whip one up. One of my biggest gripes with the A2 community is this: We get some great mods, but they rarely have buttons and wireframes, and if they do have them, they are not "functional", as in, the wireframes are single-frame and don't show particular damage, just all-around, so your ship can be yellow, yet your life support is almost gone. A real pain when looking at a whole fleet of ships in the status window.

Well looking at that button I'm impressed. At least you've still managed to keep some detail whilst adding alot to the button. Good going.

as stated, ive no problem with it. But atm i dont see why you spend your time making wireframes and buildbuttons for my ships, because they already have them lol
