I have a couple questions about the Armada II game. Modding questions.

First, How exacly do you assign assimilated textures to ships? Is it even possible? Also the same thing about damage textures, how do you assign specific damge textures to ships?

Seccond, does Armada II have Bump Mapping? Can you make models have it? I see in the graphics section of the options menu of Armada II that you can enable or disable bump mapping.

Third, What modeling programs can make .Sod files?

Fourth, Is there any way to make an area affect special weapon that kills off crew or assimilates the ship? Also is there a way to make a special borg holding beam that Assimilates the ship(And takes over, not just drains the Crew of) but does not use up any crew?

Fifth, Is there any way to make the Armada I Directors Cut option available in Armada II, I just love seeing the ships swirl around like that! I tried the orbit formation thingey but I just doesn't create the desierd effect...

Thank you for any help you might be able to provide!:)

You can make it so that a ship can always have assimilated textures, simply rename the assimilated texture file to that of the normal texture. I'm not too sure what you mean by assign, though. I believe on the A2files site, there is a mod by Flakeful, that 'generates' nebulas, and I think it can generate the radioactive nebula.

Ray 101 First, How exacly do you assign assimilated textures to ships? Is it even possible? [QUOTE=Ray 101] Third, What modeling programs can make .Sod files?

Milkshape 3d and old versions of 3dsmax

Already been stated above. Damage textures aren't exactly possible, and its something thats not really been discussed at length.

Yes and no. Although bump mapping is capable, there has never been any proper examples of it, and unlike say, SFC or BC, doesn't show up to a great extent.

Third, What modeling programs can make .Sod files?

3 programs. Milkshape 3d (newer versions do have a few bare problems with the exporter), is cheap to purchase but creating the hardpoint hierarchy can be a royal pain in the butt. 3d max v3.1, v4.0, v4.2 and v5.0 have exporters for them (the v4.0 exporter works for v4.2 and v5.0). Problem with 3dmax is its cost, but the hardpoint hierarchy is much easier to put together. Finally, theres Ultimate Unwrap 3d. I've not yet heard of anyone using UU3d so its still a mystery.

Fourth, Is there any way to make an area affect special weapon that kills off crew or assimilates the ship? Also is there a way to make a special borg holding beam that Assimilates the ship(And takes over, not just drains the Crew of) but does not use up any crew?

Hasn't been done as yet, or if it has, its not been announced

Not to my knowledge. It was removed early on in the production and I dont' think it was ever put back in.

I know the damage texture thing is possible, the Ghost Federation mod pack has special damadge textures for atleast the Galaxy Class. I just don't know how to do it...

But thanks for all the help!:)

This can be done with s_crew nodes, but since I can't rotate them with ms3d, I don't use them (the damage could be "standing up" instead of showing *on* the ship).

As for the assimilated textures, you also need a SOD with the h_borg node/joint.

This isn't right. You dont need any nodes/joints for borgtextures because the ship changes the whole texture. its different from the damage parts that you mean.

Ah, I'll remember that, for the ship that I am making.

I have another question, I am trying to put together two race mods, One for the Federation, and one for the Borg, for personnel use only. They both have Gui_global.spr files, for the wireframes and such... Anyway I was wondering what is the best way to put these two files together? Is there some program for it?

If you do not have the h_borg node/joint, the borg textures will not show up. Try it, if you don't believe me.

My concorde has no h_bord joint but it has working borg textures.
