I was wondering if I could ask the community a question or two about the shields for A1.

The primary qeustion would be ... how do i change the color of shields ingame? Using stock A1, shields change color from green to red as they are hit. I would like to change that to where it is one color throughout from 100% to 0%, but my first attempts are not working and i think i am missing something. All help would be greatly appreciated.

The secondary question is ... Can an explosion be added to certain weapon impacts? Like if a torpedo or missile hits the shields, an external explosion occurs as well as the shield impact. While this is not nearly as important as the first question, if it is possible I wouldnt mind knowing :)

All help with these will be greatly greatly appreciated :):)

While both of these are possible it requires a work around of a sort. Check out the Blue Shields mod by Elrond to change shield colors and add impacts. It's not perfect as the shield is a little too far in, but it works just fine.

Basically, it works by using a model made of sprites for the shield effect rather than an animated model. If we could mod the shield colors properly, we would have done it a long time ago. The FO team figured it out for Armada 2, but they don't like giving away secrets and replicating the feature probably requires in-depth knowledge of the core code of the game.

yh in fo its new coding they added (also there developing the code further (well mayb the weapon codes) so that each weapo can have its own impact effect instead of one standard effect.

Anyway for the time being and for a1 the blue shield mod is ur best effect (despite its name it has seval color options including red/orange

Well i have that in a previous mod I made, but those shields are made as "skin" shields that hug the ship instead of a bubble. I guess there is a way around it or figure out the FO shield bubble sod/coding.

also is there a way to modify Elrond's shield sod(s) to be a more normal bubble vs the skin shields that they currently are? Because if it can be a simple shield sod modification, it could be possible to make different types for different things, maybe possibly mimic FO shields. I will begin working on this theory and would appreciate any further help that can be rendered

Elrond's shields are a bubble, skin tight shields are next to impossible.

If you wanted skin shields you could only have 1 ship/station design in the game as you'd need a sod for all shields the same as the sod for the ship. The FO team have looked into being able to pick the shield sod individual ships use but I don't know how much success they had, or if they just stopped a race specific shields.

yh in fo each ship/station can have different shields as the shields used are controlled via odf commands but they stopped at 3 sies per race (prob 4 hdd space and time) but i'm unsure how it wud b possible to mimic fo shields outside fo as stock a1/2 have no control over wot shields get used just the hardcoded file name
