NPC - Non-Player-Controlled. Within Armada II, the only NPC race we have are the Ferengi, of whom come onto the game map at random, either trading with us at our trading posts, or thieving from us, when one of our ships loose her crew. What I am wondering (and I know this has been asked before, though I do not remember if it has been answered), is whether it is possible to add another race (or single ship maybe) that appears (randomly), attacks whatever is in sight, then either continues until it is destroyed, or leaves, and comes back later. Is this possible? I've been looking at the Cardassian Bio-ship weapon (where a Portal is opened), but that doesn't really work in the way I want it to. Rather than the play having to initiate the procedure, I am hoping for a random interval, at which a hostile ship will pounce.

yeah it can be done. try giving using the scavenger lines so it comes in when a ship is derelict, give it some weapons and set it to team 8 in the map editor... if it is an 8 player map then I dont think you can do it.

Another idea is to give a scavenger ship the Cardie Bioship weapon (or a modified version of it) as its only weapon. Not sure that'll work, but in theory, it'll bring in something nasty instead of using a tractor beam.

It's too bad there isn't a "random beast" tag like the "scavenger" or "trader" tag. I'd much rather use THAT to simulate a sudden Borg assault than have a full race. Ditto 8472.

Well, it is worth a try. Come the weekend, I'll have a little play around with the coding.
