I wish we knew, that would break the biggest barrier to modding we currently have. There was something about tools being released by activision to modify the scripts a while ago but it never actually occured. All you can reallly do is edit the maps and try and manipulate the objectives to a way that suites.

I've never tried using a hex editor on them, can't believe I never thought of it, but even if you do, it's still limited as to what you can change. It would be great if we could write entire missions from scratch.

A while a go I tried to do something that in theory should have given us a lot more flexibility in writing campaigns, I tried to copy the dsl/drl files, the bzn file and all other files that related to a single mission, then over wrote them over another mission, it didn't work, but the idea was that you could choose the objectives from any of the stock missions and then use the map editor to make them all unique. The problem I might have had, could have been an issue in the drl/dsl files that maybe changable with a hex editor. Of course this is all theory but if someone wants to give it another go...

ps. hi medafusion, it's been a while since we heard from ya last.

I have opened those files with a hex editor before, but I don't think you can do any more than can be achieved by directly editing the resource files?

for the past several weeks i have been putting together my own Section 31 and Tal Shiar races, and now i want to get some missions for them to make a single player campaign. at the moment all i need to do is change the script files to read sorbital.odf instead of forbital.odf, and the same for research stations for the first mission.

What I did was write my missins aroound already existing missions. I added the ship I wanted and changed it's label to the one the original srock mission used and then changed the voices to what I wanted it to be. It can be annoying but somtimes you gotta do what yu gotta do. Maybe we should petition activision?

No. Been there done that. What you need to do is rally against Mad Doc. With the tools *possibly* being released for Legacy (still unlikely) they would then be useable with Armada. However, it's a really big if.
