Not that I know of but try this, make a small probe, cheap and expendable with no engine but a transwarp driveand long range sensors. That way they are easy to kill but they can go anywhere and take a peek;)

I don't think so, I've fiddled around with trying to do just that ever since EaW came out and it has that abality. i just don't think it's possible without going the probe ship route.

There was a weapon like that in fleet ops, but I'm not sure what the ODF names or anything were, but it can be done.

the special waepon in FLOPS was the probe. if u fiddle around with lengh of travel, speed and duration of spying, you can send it almost anywhere on the map.

There was a probe weapon in FO yes but there's also one that lets you click on an area of the map to reveal it, I think it was equipped to the Dominions larger sensor array (I think it was called the Hyperspace Sensor or something).

The starbase stations had a tachyon scanner that reveals cloaked ships within a selected area but it doesn't reveal any more of the map.
