Hello :) Getting back into the BFG project and the such, and I was wanting to update shield effects. Atm I have the standard ones (had to reinstall) but I will put Elrond's Blue Shield ( http://armada2.filefront.com/file/Blue_Shields;70823 ) effect back on, but I would like to adapt it or even make a new one based on his idea of a hit-reactive grid instead of the huge 'wave' effect you get from stock shields. So I have two questions associated with this. 1. Can you have different shield effects for different races? Or would that involve having to use the FleetOps project? 2. How can I create a texture that looks like a black void with purple lightning for shield effects? I would use the 4x4 effect on a 256 or 512 texture yes? Like a slideshow running from left to right? The black would also have to be 'brighter' than black because it would be considered a blank space right? Reason why I want a black void with purple lightning style effects is because the Imperium and Chaos use a shield technology known as void shields, and thats what they would look like in my imagination lol. Thanks :)

Hey ragnar,

No, i dont think you can have different effects for each race and you cant do a black void because as you said black counts as a blank space.

actually i think it conly counts as blank in the alpha channel so aslong as the alpha chanel is white the black will show but it will b a solid black (not semi seethrough)

So even if I used a color that isn't complete black R=0, G=0, B=0 and instead used one say 1,1,1 it still wouldn't be black? That should work should it not??

Having the RGB value at 1,1,1 would only make it slightly less transparent. Add an alpha channel to the texture to highlight the area you want visible.

EDIT: So basically, I'd just be creating the shield texture in the alpha section? And leaving colored bits to the normal section (the lightning)?

Not sure what program you're using, but using Paint Shop Pro I'd create the texture, select the area I want to be visible using the selection tool and then save that selection as the alpha channel. Not quite sure how you'd go about it if you're using PhotoShop.

I use Photoshop, and I think I can replicate what you're saying elevatormusic. I shall give it a try later, thanks :D Basically just an detailed alpha of a black silouette/object so it shows up black lol. If it works, I'll get a Fraps video of it to show it off :p
