As we all know, there are five systems that can be upgraded: weapons, shields, engines, sensors, and life support. And there are two upgrade levels: Level 2 and Level 3.

My questions are: 1. Has anyone found more systems that can be upgraded this way?

2. Can I make a tertiary build list in order to make Level 4 upgrades?

One thing I want to do is give each race the ability to upgrade one of their systems a third time, and different races will get different ones.

1) There are only five systems on a ship, and we have upgrades for them all so I'm not sure I follow the question.

2) The stock game only allows you to replace a button once, if I were doing this i'd either create a second upgrade center or include a 2nd set of buttons for Level 4 & 5 next to the Level 2 & 3 ones with the build requirement in the tech tree set as being the level3 to prevent building the level 4 before the level 2 and 3 pods.

For example, races with cloaking could upgrade their cloaking devices and all races could upgrade their cloak detection. Tachyon detection grid would be level 1 anti-cloak, and thalaron cloak (like the Scimitar had) would be level 4 as it is a "perfect" cloak. I would have only Romulans being able to detect or use level 4 cloaks, everyone else only gets level 3.

It is an interesting idea. Keep in mind though that the thalaron from the Scimitar is a weapon, not a cloak.

It has a thalaron weapon but the cloak is also based on thalaron technology. That is why the Enterprise and the Romulans can't track them.

It's not possible to upgrade cloaking devices. If you run a search though, options for different cloak detection methods have been done to death in the past.

There are three files in \odf\special_weapons called gdetect1, gdetect2, and gdetect3. Each one has a different value for detectClass. What does this mean? I notice all races in game have detectClass=3.

as far as anyone can tell...squat. Seems like there is no difference in the detection levels. Same in A1 all do the same thing

It was probably planned to have different cloak levels in A1, scrapped part way through development, then found it's way into A2, just like a lot of other worthless code. The FO team might be able to get it working, but it would probably be part of something bigger, like the next part of the Patch Project.
