I have recently played Homeowrld 2 and as I played it I thought about how much better it would be in Star Trek. For those who have not played it, it differs from Armada by disallowing "superships" for example a Battleship is used for killing bases and other capitol ships, it cannot fire on really small ships or if it does it will mostly miss. Every ship has a role to fill in the fleet and it is impossible to win with only one type of ship because every ship type has a weakness to another. I was wondering if Armada 2 Could be modded in a similar fashion? and if so how could it be done? or if it has been done?

Yes, it can be done. There is a hitchance command which lets you specify the chance a particular weapon can hit a particular type. So, with your battlecruisers you'd set it to have a very low hitchance against fighters etc.

You know you'd think with all the mods for homeworld that there would be a star trek one...but I don't remember ever having stumbled across one..

Well I know that in A2, only Sovvies and Galaxies can attack planets so it must be possible.

I was thinking about getting rid of the beam and torpedo weapons, and adding TypeIPhaser, TypeII... ect for both phasers and torpedos. Is the hit chance built into the weapon files or into the odf files?

Are the hit chances for individual ship classes in the weapon files or in the ship class odf files?

They will be listed in the weapon files. All weapons have two files. One of them is the ordnance file which covers details such as this, I think. It has been a long time since I looked at them. The hit chances are listed by ship class or ship name (either Batt2 or Galaxy, not both) and use a decimal value instead of listing a percentage.

It is possible, people have done it. I've touched on it with Zero Hour, but haven't got very far with it, seems to be a lot of work (adding all relivant ships to each weapon .odf file, then editing the near-miss stuff). It has been done though, so yeah, it'll work.

OK.... I'll take alook thank you I plan on trying the physics mod X, my other concern is the static stand and fire method the stock game has. I would like small ships to wieve in and out on attacks while as ship size and weapon range increas this effect decreases. Thunderfoot sugested that he added a physic order for small fighters/bombers in this I hope I can get it functioning so that I can test it out....

My overall hope is to edit this game so it poses a more indepth tactics, then edit the officer limit so that it can be increased as you upgrade your starbase (Outpost---> Starbase ------> Space Station -------> Space Dock) each level also increasing crew replenishment and have station type interlaced into the tech tree so that there are limitations to what you can research/build without upgrading your station/Command Centre. I'm going to try out the carrier mod, but I am uncertain if carrier groups are nessessary, I have not heard or seen them much in the Star Trek Universe excepts for in SFC 2. Any thoughts feel free to post
