Well, it seems to me that to have a succesful and more importantly, a fun moddification to armada 2 it needs to be multiplayer compatible. Now, I haven't quite gotten a solution to the problem. Any help on the matter would be appreciated. I have though and heard of a few things to do. I 've heard about buying or renting a server, but beyond that, I don't know of much choice. I've never actually played armada 2 on the internet, so that makes things harder for me to figure out. If anyone has a simple and cheap solution, just tell me here. If I can get this to work, the mod will be much more fun.
Draconis. All you need to remember with MP is that every player MUST HAVE the same installation. There can be no differences otherwise you'll end up with an out of synch error which will stop connection.
I've not played A1/A2 online myself, but I've seen this from others who have.
As for the success of any mod. It has little to do with it being MP compatible (see above), and more to how you've made it. Every mod is made more to the modders specifications. Its a by product that its released and as such never make a mod for the public. Always mod for yourself and then release it. My only suggestion to you is also include a set of test results if your able to (having a LAN does help a great deal in this matter). Do you have a friend who you can play test the mod online with?? Alternatively, once you believe your mod is ready just release it. People will like or not like it. Just becareful you don't make a big song and dance about it (as the MP2 did). Aside from that you've got your mod name and title in your signature so that will help.
Oh and have you considered making a small advertisement on other forums of a similair nature (bare in mind if you PM me when your mods released I can make a new bulletin on AFC main website).
i have my own clan online [ST], M.A.P. is right YOU DO NOT NEED A SEVER ONLINE it's free just create a game and ppl will come to the game (hopefully) ***ALSO if u play online don't forget the lag which can be caused by Dial-Up (due to slow connections) when plaing online go (after you click the multiplayer image a.k.a. all the spicies transporting choose INTERNET-GAMESPY then it will show you a login screen just Forget about it if you couldnt type your name fully in the first part of multiplayer then go tothe sendond part ( the gamespy login part and type it there) but just a warning ppl square sometimes not all the time probally like 2 times in a hour if you have any questions about playing online or anything that involves playing online in A2 just e-mail me or PM me email@example.com or admin @starbase176 and one more last thing most clans/people in Armada 2 don't play online with mods:::I only saw like 20 ppl playing online with mods online in like 1 year
Well, since armada 2.5 was designed as a multiplayer mod in the first place, I've decided to stick with that. I shouldn't even of bothered to post, I never seem to get any useful answers. I never seem to here anything new. I suppose that any course of action will be to make it clear that this is a multiplayer mod. I doesn't seem like anyone would want to play an un-modded game ever, if they new that there was something better. I guess some people might like that, but I do not. I don't care whether people really choose to play online or not. I just want to encourage it. Playing against the AI is hardly any fun. It's more fun playing the AI with the mod than without, by far. Anyway, the mod is hardly complete and we will not know just who will like it or not. I made the mod in the way that I view star trek to be, which may not be the way which others see it. I try to make the mod as fun as possible. It has been a mod for everyone to enjoy since I started modding for the community. I probably should say something more along the lines of it will be a mod for everyone to enjoy, but I started with enjoyment of everyone including myself in mind when I began. What I really was wanting was something dedicated to armada 2.5 and nothing else, that way people would have a less stressful time finding an opponent to play against. Only time will tell I suppose.
