First off: THIS IS NOT A MOD! This is a Machinima project but I need the modding communities help for it to be possable.

When I refer to 'the federation' I'm talking about the combination of Humans, Klingons, and Romulans...oh and Vulcans too...but they never actually DO anything. Story Background: Set after “Star Trek: Nemesis” in the year 2550 (approx 270 after Nemesis). The Romulans have joined the Federation and peace is widespread throughout the known galaxy. The Borg disappeared from the Federation’s radar following the events in the final episode of Voyager, in which many Borg were disabled and the gateway to the Alpha Quadrant (i.e. Teran system or ‘Earth’) destroyed. Secretly however the Borg rebuilt and strengthened, doing their best to avoid Federation detection, until now. After detecting 4 Borg Cubes (of unusually small size) the Federation dispatches a small fleet to make contact. This fleet is lead by Captain Henry Wells of the Starship Victory (named after Lord Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar.). This is where our story begins. Synopsis The Borg has declared all out war on the Federation and seeks to assimilate it in one single military action. Through clever deception the Borg manage to adapt to the new weaponry of the Federation and start to tear apart its worlds. We follow the story through the eyes of Henry Wells, a key commander in the battle to save the Federation. Through the efforts of the USS Victory the Borg are hamstringed and slowly defeated by what remains of the Federation ships. However not before a Cube has reached Earth, a cube bigger than any other (approx. the size of Mars) seeking to take down the core of the Federation. Even with the rest of the Borg fleet destroyed will the federation be able to fight back? Or will resistance truly be futile this time? Post ideas, thoughts and opinions here. This is just a draft so far (and may change completely) but I will consider all opinions vital. This film is a while off yet (Late 2006 If we are lucky) and I don't predict I will start filming for a few months yet so you have plenty of time to post ideas.

Until then I need people to help me. Seeing as it's set so far in the future I will need modified ships for the Federation. Plus anything creative for the Borg would be great (270 years and the only thing new is a giant cube? kind of dull). I'll also need a GIANT cube, I've looked around and there are a few avaliable already...but mine might need to be bigger.

I will also need some help doing the battle sequences. All you'd have to do is come online and follow some basic instructions (target cube A with minimum weapons, set to Green alert, don't engage these guys etc etc.)

There are also voice acting positions open for those interested.

This is a lot to ask but the end product will hopefully be worth it.

All contributers (from a voice to a simple texture) will receive full credit, and my thanks.

Cheers -Mike

P.S My Star Trek 'lore' might be a little rusty so If I've missed some key element please feel free to fill me in.

Well, the storyline is good, I just don't see why (or how) everyone needs to use the Borg as the main adversary. There are plenty of species out there, thousands (if not more). However, it will be something different. Mind, when saying "Machinima" - Do you mean the sort of thing shown for USSMiranda.com?

Yes it's a film created with computer game engines. You only watch it, not play it.

I like the Borg as an enemy, they intrest me and fit perfectly with the plot (there is more to the story than what's in the synopsis). Whilst there are many other species out there few are like the Borg. Where other races may pull out to prevent loss of life, the Borg will continue until their goal is acheived.

I did not choose them because they are popular, I did so because they fit well with the 'type' of story I wanted to tell.

Cheers -Mike

Fair enough Mike :) - Well, it sounds like a nice plot, and (if for video) - It's going to take a while to complete. I look foward to it though. :)

It will take some time. I've started to modify some ships (just in the demo for practise) and I've already run into some problems :P

Can anyone tell me why this has happened?

I know it has something to do with the alpha channels but I'm not sure how to fix it. I'm using Milkshape and the SOD plugin :)

I'm also just using the standard model (albeit a bit modified) with standard textures. Help appreciated :D

Cheers -Mike

EDIT: Well it seems I'm too much of a n00b so the forum won't let me post images. The problem is that my model has no textures :S I can only see the lights

Mike. Try using something like Photobucket (I use it for all my image hosting).

As for this problem you've run into, it is likely to be the mesh naming sections than any problem with Alpha channels. However, I would suggest removing the alpha channel from the texture and doing another test.

Oh and lets see if anyone remembers the name Futility.

Post I Unfortunately I cannot post anytype of URL. Hosting isn't the problem :S I do not fully undestand what you mean about the mesh naming. currently they are: !phong_Saucer_!noalpha !phong_BattleBridge_!noalpha How should I change them? If at all? Cheers -Mike Post II if you go to frendzies.po.gs (copy into browser) and then click on the forums you should find a topic called 'pre-production' in the Star Trek: Futility thread. There is a picture of the problem I'm having there. I'd post it up here but I get a message about not being aloud to post URLs. "You are trying to create a post containing a URL. Until you have reached a certain level, posting of URL's is disabled. If you are trying to post an emoticon, enter it's code rather than clicking it in the smilie table. Be aware, that ALL ADVERTISING on this forum is NOT allowed, and any such attempts will be quickly deleted and a full ban enforced on your account." What I mean is you need to load the TGA texture files into something such as Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop and remove the alpha channel.
