Well back in 2000 a person (thats all i got :D) decided to make a ODF editor and honestly this beauty has saved me more times than i can count from scrapping the build and starting again..at least in terms of A1. After getting my hands on a copy of A2 i found that this would be a huge help to myself so i started to add the needed files and lines in order for it to work with A2. As the title says so far its a beta seeing as all the lines arent programed yet and it needs some tweaks. Now if i get this done i'd like to realese it but the readme has no contact info and im not able to get into AFc to 2x check. So one question is should i realese it anyway and 2) anybody interested in testing this and 3) anybody want this?

here is the read me...HEY LOOK PEOPLE I USED SPOILER TO POST THE README YET NOT TAKE UP THE WHOLE PAGE DOING IT! :deal: (sorry i find it bothersome when someone just post the file without hiding it )

anyways:

Spoiler: Show

Star Trek Armada Ultimate Modifier ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ version 1.1 (1.1.1.9) Tuesday, 18 July 2000

Star Trek Armada Ultiamte Modifier (STAUM) is a program that can debug your ODF and tt files! The editor will automatically debug a file as a tt file, if its filename ends with ".tt" . Otherwise, it will be interpreted as an ODF file.

Staum version 1.1 fixes/changes --------------------------------- -Added support for Tech Tree files -Added help document with descriptions on ALL errors -Message window will hide when no bug is found -Added a abort function when debugging -You can browse code with script hierarchy more easily (click on an item and see for yourself) -some script hierarchy bugs fixed -Added ability to change editor font, size and wordwrap -Program now saves the window position and size -The declarations.txt has been updated -Fixed the bug where a dialog always appears when you open a file with command line. -You can now TAB properly -'Real' value errors on windows that uses different decimal character than '.' fixed. -Fixed spelling mistake on "Modifier" in the program's caption :) -and some other minor bugs

special thanks to all the people who gave me valuable comments, suggestions and bug reports about STAUM 1.0 beta

and remember to visit http://stardock804.webprovider.com/staum/

BTW checked the url and its a no go its a dead address And it still works with A1

now time for a lil

Sounds like it'd be very useful, now if there was a program for the AI or even total ship additions that would be really awesome.

That's a difficult one.

Given that the last release was nine (!) years ago and the website is down it does look like the author has left the community, which is hardly surprising considering the time that has lapsed since the last release.

Since this was released before A2 was released I doubt the author would have had any objections to his program being updated so that it is still useful.

Bleh. Yeah, release it. We'll host it on the basis of implied consent, he's purposely made the program user editable which demonstrates an intention to let people edit it. I can't see any reason why he'd not want those changes to be released.

What does this do then, find mistakes that you've made like missing commas or quotation marks that crash the game?

That and checks to see if the odf and sod name match (i.e u have fnova.sod and are using it as fscout.odf, tells you that there is no fnova odf unless you used the basename command), 2x checks the weapons files againt those in the odf to make sure that weapons actually exist. Checks the weaponshardpoints to see if the match the number, any misspelled commands,so yes in short any odf or techtree(edits them too) error that could result in a CTD is covered.

Yeah, it sounds exceedingly useful.

I wonder why nobody else has come up with the same idea over the past 9 years, I've lost count of the number of times i've seen threads on the forum with CTD errors that people can't figure out.

Most likely because the original is in the backwaters of AFC and comes with the storm3d viewer and is just named tools, honestly i just got lucky...not sure iof that same file is here though gonna go check

*leaves* *returns* Nope not to much in the A1 Utilities dep. here :)

Re-writing existing programming, whether it's a script or a texture or a mesh, we can do. Writing a new program to debug modifications to the existing programming.... not really.

There is a dedicated set of "coders" working in certain games --most notably Bridge Commander, where the Foundation stuff makes it all possible. The closest thing we have in A2 is FleetOps, and even then, those guys aren't coding so much as modding the code as well as the game.

I actually managed to get to a file before the Kid posted it. I'm proud of this achievement. =p
