Star Trek vs. Star Wars Total Conversion - 0.76/0.77

Foreword This is a long delayed follow up to this thread: http://forums.filefront.com/st-a2-permission-requests/308496-star-wars-vs-star-trek-mod.html

In 2004/2005, Wildstar essentially completed the Star Trek vs. Star Wars II mod started by project90 by combining elements of the STvsSW mod for Armada 1, Borg Incursion and other mods. The complete compilation has never been uploaded here until now.

I've made some minor fixes to Wildstar's 0.75 and 0.76 (mainly typos in code for shield upgrades and prices). I've amended the README file appropriately (leaving Wildstars original README content unaltered). Renaming this as version 0.77 Full credits are included in the file, and Wildstar gained the appropriate permissions for the mod a few years ago.

Requirements Fresh A2 install with 1.1 patch

Installation Extract all files to "C:\Activision\Star Trek Armada II" (or wherever you installed A2)

This file combines p90's 0.5, 0.5a releases

Known Issues *In game music does not work (not sure if there is any, or how to check this) *Game could do with much more tweaking and balancing. Romulans are difficult to play as. Star Wars. *Star Trek anti-torpedo weapons have no effect on Star Wars missiles and torpedoes, nor does corbomite reflector on Sovereign. *AI could be improved, especially for SW teams, but overall as well. *Ship response needs tweaking for Excalibur, Nebula, Reman Scimitar, and some others. *Mining rates may need some tweaking still. Federation metal mining was extremely fast, I think I've slowed it now, but may need some rebalancing overall.

Conclusion I'm hopeful that some modders might want to pick this up and continue/improve this mod, which is definately one of my favourite A2 mods. The README file indicates Wildstar was working on the Confedercy of Independent Systems as a 6th race, but I don't know if this was ever completed and released.

QUESTION: How can I get this file uploaded to armada2files?

NOTE: Let me know if you have any problems with this pack. All I've done is repack p90 and Wildstars work. I've tested the compilation on my PC, so it should be fine.

ish working on a ST vs SW mod... my biggest problem is the difference in the look of the Trek ships and the SW ships, the Trek ships are now at a point where they look almost real, and the Star Wars ships have been left untouched in years.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. To do this project successfully you can't pick up on someone elses already partially completed beta. You need to strip the mod down completely and restart it from the beginning.

QUESTION: How can I get this file uploaded to armada2files?

We have an upload form here:-

Armada 2 Files - Upload Your Files!

Just to clarify: did you have permission from Wildstar to finish his work off? I assume you have as this wasn't publicly released, but you have a copy of it. :)

I didn't really "finish off his work". I changed a half dozen odf files which were obviously incorrect to me.

E.G. Starship name typos, level 3 shield research downgrading instead of upgrading shield strength, planetary sheilds costing 27500 metal instead of 2750 metal, etc.

Barring these fairly minor fixes, this is the same as Wildstars 0.76 mod version, which was publicly released, but never on armada2files, which severely limited its exposure. Also Wildstar's site went permanently offline shortly after it's release, which didn't help much.

It's my favourite mod for Armada 2, and I continue to play it every now and then. I just wanted to get it back out there.

Isn't the problem always do you have permission? So many people want it, but so many people don't prepare for the test of time. Let take bi 1 or That naval mod. People still play it, but the mod creator has been gone for years. Think this is a case of right down who made it and substitute it for credits. Least we know who made it originally, others weren't so lucky :/

There's no such thing as "substitution for credits". If you can find out who made it, you *have to* make an attempt to contact them. That's not negotiable. And if you get permission or can't contact them, you have to give them credit in the readme.

I think thats what he meant Kid...substitute credit in place of getting in contact with the creator
