Hey hello rite i wanted to add tractor beams to my federation ships but when i finished everything and tested it it not only would not work but i lost the ability for these ships to fire their weapons. Can anyone tell me how to add tractor beams to all of the fedaeration ships.
The fassault.odf looks like this; // Pulse Phaser weapon1 = "fapulse" weaponHardpoints1 = "hp01" "hp02" "hp03" "hp04"
// Towing Beam weapon2 = "gtracbm" weaponhardpoints2 = "hp05"
There's your tractor beam. It works and so do weapons. That entry can be added to any ship's odf. Did you copy the odf entry and put it at the top of the weapons with out making sure the sequential weapon #s were correct. IE., if your odf looked like this: // Towing Beam weapon2 = "gtracbm" weaponhardpoints2 = "hp05"
// Pulse Phaser weapon1 = "fapulse" weaponHardpoints1 = "hp01" "hp02" "hp03" "hp04"
// Photon torpedos weapon2 = "fbattlephot" weaponHardpoints2 = "hp29" "hp30"
You see the: // Towing Beam weapon2 = "gtracbm" should say weapon1
If it were as above none of the weapons below would work. That's all I can guess at the moment. As to the tractor beam not working, that's a real unknown. It should and has worked on any ship with any class label.
The question I have is simular to the recent one. Although I would like to know how to use the tractor beam the borg use to hold ships in place and put it on a federation ship. Because this tractor beam can hold a ship in place without the engins haveing to be knocked out. i know How to make it so that the beam dosent start killing people. I just want to put it on a fed ship. and maybe even change the color. Does anyone know how to do that?:feedback:

Good going Resistance! Yes, spaces and " marks will kill you. We all have it happen.
Tibrus- you can make the Borg holding beam be used on any ship. In the holdbm.odf I lowered the boarding party amount to 1 so it really mostly holds and doesn't send Borg drones aboard depleting your crew. It does not work set to zero. Of course just holding an enemy ship will not do much good as they can still blast at you unless you're the Borg and the beam is sucking out 25 crew per second. You need to change the line in gholdbm.odf too where it talks about :
// this should NOT start attacking when we use it switchToAttack = 0 ----set this to 1 if you want to hold the enemy ship and blast it with other weapons. If not leave it alone.
You'll need to list the special weapon in the Fed section of your tech files. I'd go like this : gholdbm.odf 0 --- making it a 'free' weapon with no research needed. If you get it to work the way you want you can think about making a Fed pod for research it later.

Tibrus-If you want to change the color of the holding beam you need to do one of the following things: You can make a new texture for the holding beam you can modify the existing texture or you can use a different sod. To change the sod go to gholdbm.odf and where it says what sod it uses change it to something else, like to whatever sod the tractor beam uses (I did this to give the Scimitar mod I downloaded to make it have a green tractor beam like in the movie.
