Does anyone know how to set up a ship or even a station so that once you have one in existance, you cannot build a duplicate unless the first one is destroyed or decomissioned? In other words, how do you make something totally unique? Designating a ship "isHero = 1" does not work. Neither does "labeling the ship because it is UNIQUE". Enterprise E is a hero ship but I can build 50 of them!(Yes, the Enterprise E, not just the sovereign class. Capt. Picard's voice sounds on all 50 of them. Talk about multiplicity.)I would like to make ships such as Ent-E and Voyager and Defiant totally unique. Please, any suggestions would be helpful.

thats because your adding it to a ship yard, the only way to get one of those ships in the game is making it a starting unit.. if you don't always know how to do this. Go in to the odf files, go to others find the odf file named "fed"

What CDS is saying is that you'll have that ship as a starting unit like a construction ship. I built Deathstars for each race and entered it just once in the build lists. I didn't want a flood of big planetoid sized powerful ships flying around to throw off balance. Anyhow that works pretty well as the AI really doesn't crank out many of them in a long game on a big map as it moves through the build lists- maybe 2-3 per race.
Yeah, I understand about not including them in the build lists and only making them "standard units". What I'm really after is a way(if possible), to build a ship, and then not be able to build another like it until that one is gone. Is there any kind of command that would allow me to do that? The tech tree allows me to demand certain pre-requisites for building ships and stations, but I can't think of a way to reverse engineer it, to make a condition of building something the very absence of that particular item. knowwahtimean? CDS's way is the only way by making it an existing starting unit. Cause if it is on a build list the AI will make one each time it runs through the list. If you list just one just once only 2-3 per long game will be built though. When I say long game I mean a scenario where I build more than 1000 ships and kill 3000.
Wow! That is a long game! I've done upwards of about 600 before, but never 3000. I usually wipe out the AI before that. I also never play with unlimited resources so that may have something to do with it. I think I'll just set it up so that building special ships and stations is a long, drawn out and costly process. Besides, why would someone go to the trouble of trying to build 50 USS Enterprise D's, when the standard Galaxy class is much lower in the tech tree and can be made cheaper and faster to build. These forums are great!
I play Borg only 99% of the time in 50000x50000 maps with Rom allie. I edited the files for enemies to build things in about half normal time and changed mining rates plus crew accumulation for all races. I usually have 40-50 planets on a map with 2-3 near each base. My planets are armed. I have mine-able asteroids and of course moons. I can build all races construction ships and build all their stuff and use it against them and assimilate the best weapons.
My probable highest game was 5484 ships and 210 stations killed with 2001 ships built and 172 stations. I enlisted 1.5 million crew and usually hit 900000- 1 million. My mined metal and dilithium pegs the counters at 999999 regularly. I have constant waves of attackers from 6 enemies and just love Armada like this. I know others would not. But fo rme it put the "arms" in Armada.

there might be another way to only be able to build it once. If you look on fupgrade.odf it has secondary build lines on the shipyard just make the first one a ship like enterprise-E and the second a regular sovereign it might work
I saw another thread where someone else mentioned the research facility scenerio. It wet my thirst, but I just haven't had the time to try it yet. Probably this week. Hey twitch1, I know what you mean. I love to set up a mining station around a moon and then encircle it with about 80-100 phaser turrets. Then, when the enemies come in I watch with glee as the entire fleet is helplessly cut to pieces(smiles).
Operative- try creating a super turret then you'll need fewer of them. I think Armad2's idea is worth a try. It's great people just keep coming up with new ways to do things in Armada!
