Right when you find an unmaned ship its normally got fire coming from some systems, is there also a way to trun off the lights from the engines, deflector, All external lighting. But when you transport crew over all comes back on.?
yeah, cover the mesh in the "switched off" mesh and add it the appropriate node in the damage hierarchy.

unfortunately if you can't model it's going to be imporrible without outside assistance. was this for a single ship or a mod feature maybe?
I was just trying to do it for my own game. I'm not a moder (would like to be). I can do small things like change odf and weapons, silly things like that but don't really know how to do much else.
All the more reason to learn how to model than eh ;).

Yeah Dan's right, and it would only take a minor amount of knowledge to learn it, most of your efforts would be in making the textures look switched off.
I'm not even sure where to start or what programs i'd need
well either milkshape or 3dsmax (V5 or older) for the 3D and almost any 2d editor (paint shop pro/photoshop). If you have those I can walk you through the steps, though using milkshape is a skill I dont have/want but I'm sure some other modder will help you out there.
Yea i tried using milkshape before, i couldn't even import a sod file lol. i even went though how you use it. I wasn't getting anywhere.
