If you edit an existing texture you shouldn't have a problem if your making a new one you will need to make a sprite for it. sprites need to be added to the weapon.spr file Weapons follow this format fphaser Wfedphaser 0 0 128 32 @anim=tex1x4 wpoleron wpoltorp 0 0 32 32 @anim=tex4x4 First is the name you want the sprite to have next is the name of the texture file. Then you have the dimentions of one of the beams and finally now many beams ther are in the texture file.

What weapon are you trying to change? if ur trying to change the standard fed phaser...you want to edit wfedphaser.tga. Simply change it to whatever color you want and save..the game should automatically see it. If you are trying to add a new phaser to the game..say a more yellow phaser from nemesis..you need to save the .tga file as a new one and create a new entry in the weapon.spr file simply do a search for wfedphaser and enter the new line...it might be something like "fphaser wfedphaser 0 0 128 32 @anim=tex1x4". Now, under that entry you want to make a new entry..we'll call it "fphaserNEM wfedphaserNEM 0 0 128 32 @anim=tex1x4" Now these entries may change depending on the size of your texture file..if you have a 256 x 256 texture then the entries should suffice and ur phaser should be fine...if the texture is say 128 x 128 then you'd want the entry to be 0 0 64 16 or sumthing like that...all of my phasers are 256 x 256. Now after you have ur texture and ur sprite...you have to edit the odf of ur weapon...if you want to change the Sovereign classes phaser sprite from the standard fed phaser...simple change in the fbphaso.odf where it says sprite="fphaser" to sprite="fphaserNEM" and thats it...ur done...if you have any other questions...please feel free to ask...i have viturually every phaser in my game from the cannon type10 and type12 to future weapons along the lines of the type 20 which is about 7 times more powerful than the phasers mounted on the sovereign class.

Thanks guys for your feedback. I am trying to add a new phaser to the game. I tried what you suggested but the phaser comes out as a white beam now. Do you know what I can do to rectify this? confusedx.gif

Some where in the wapon's ODF- like FBPHASO.ODF you have :

#include "phasero.odf"

//The base amount of damage which the ordinance does with each hit damageBase = 60

//The sprite which is used for this ordinance Sprite = "blphaser"

The Sprite = "blphaser" means the phaser color will be blue. In the SPrites folder in the weapons.odf all the colors are shown so if you want it to be red instead you put in "rdphaser". If you want a Borgish green put in "colonymbgreen". "mphaser" is magenta and so on. Just specify in the ordnance ODF file and you can experiment as to what you want.

In the RGB folder you'll see all the TGAs so you know the colors yu can use. Wphaser.tga shows all the basic colors you can call out in the "rdphaser" or whatever in the ordnance odf. Actually all there is is red, blue and magenta then you gotta specify other TGA files if you want something different. As I said you can use the colorof the Borg colony beam for any phaser by calling out "colonymbgreen" in the ordnance file. Each race has a specific phaser color too you'll notice. Look for Wfedphaser.tga, Wromphaser.tga and so on.
