I'm trying to make the game more interesting, so I'm trying to do some things to the weapons. The ODF editors won't work with editing weapons. Is there a weapon editor out there?

Yes.a couple of the ODF editors available can do it, i'd recommend STATE (star trek armada editor)

Star Trek: Armada 2 Download Files, Download Star Trek: Armada 2 Patches - FileFront.com

I personally edit the ODF's manually with wordpad, I don't trust automation all that much especially when modding a computer game or installation of a modification.

I agree, I usually prefer the wordpad method as well.

Each to his own I guess. I rarely use the editors, but comes in handy for large scale odf changes :D

I tried using wordpad, but it says Cannot create "filename". Make sure the path is correct. :mad: Grrrr, I want to make armada 2 more realistic. HEEELLLLLP :P

This should help. it is the very first thing someone has to do if they wish to mod any stock files at all. I always include it in my Installation Instructions because not everyone has modded this game before. Hope it helps and I am looking forward to see what you come up with.

//************************************* INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE: If you have never modded this game before, right click on C:\Activision and left click on Properties. Left click on the 'Read Only' button near the bottom. Next, left click on the 'Apply' button at the bottom of the Properties window. Another window will pop up at this point. Left click on the 'Apply to this folder, all subfolders, and Files option. Right click on C:\Activision\Star Trek Armada 2 and left click on Properties. Left click on the 'Read Only' button near the bottom. Next, left click on the 'Apply' button at the bottom of the Properties window. Another window will pop up at this point. Left click on the 'Apply to this folder, all subfolders, and Files option.

Well done thunderfoot, beat me too it. Yeah read only is a pain but it's done to stop accidental editing of files and screwing up the running of the game/application.
