I'm working on a project that involves importing models and textures from a PC game released in the late 90's, and I was wondering, if I make it completely clear in the mods readme that I did not create the models or textures, that I don't own the game concept of any of its universe components e.t.c, and give full credit to the original game company/developers, would I be alright releasing the mod? I've held off showing anything from this project because I wasn't sure I'd be able to release any of it at the end of the day, but the recent packs of Homeworld ships released on BCFiles has me wondering. Any answers/advice on this are appreciated :)

Sorry I didn't get this sooner. If you don't have a specific way of getting in touch with the individuals or corporations responsible for the original content, since the game comes from a time before the widespread use of e-mail contact, then as long as you've included a reference to the originals (exactly as you've laid out above-- concept and components), you might as well go ahead and put the content together for release. We'll check it over on this end, and approve it pending proper credits. As you're usually more thorough than anyone else on this sort of thing, I don't foresee a problem.

I would look closely at any user licenses for that particuar game to ensure there isn't a problem.
