Hi everyone, im in DIRE STRAITS (and not the eighties rock group lol), hope sum1 can HELP me out? think i av sum sort of AI prob on my armada2, as i cant play against the borg or dominion (i can play as either tho). See thread "crash at end of the loadbar" for original HELP. rewrote the federation (fed AI works) AIPs (all 5), and kept crashing 2/3rd to 3/4 of the load bar. check for bunny ears and comma errors and sorted them all out, but still crash in same location. The funny annoying bit is i added the original working fed AIPs back and removed a comma from the klingon defence AIP file and tryed loading in again knowing i have that error, and the game crashed when i selected to be the klingons (assume the aips are checked no matter what race ur being). cud any1 throw sum lite on the fact that my borg and dom AI's dont work and yet i can still play as them???? had the prob for a few days now and still cant se the lite at the end of the tunnel. cud it be a build confliction with the techtree, ty for any advice
A human doesn't use the AIP's, so a human can still load a game when the AIP is broken. It just means the AI won't do anything.
Putting something in the buildlist AIP that the AI couldn't build because of the tech tree would not cause a crash, it would just cause the AI not to progress past that line. And yes, all AIP's, ODF's, TT's, and SPR entries (in fact, everything in the game with textual content!) are loaded are loaded at the start of a mission regardless of if they are going to be used or not. Misplaced quotation marks in any file the game uses can/will cause a crash.
If you don't know what the problem is, I would advise backing up your existing AIP's to another directory, and replacing all of your AIP entries with stock ones. That will allow you to establish if the AIP's are actually the problem or not. (Assumptions can be painful!)
If the game suddenly starts working when you do that then you have verified that the problem definitely is those files. The best course of action would be to move them back in small groups (like the AI's for each race) testing as you go to see if the game starts crashing. When it does, the file was in the last group.
You might also find this tool invaluable. http://armada2.filefront.com/file/STAUM_20;102577
If you find which file is the problem and you can't figure it out, just post it here and we'll have a look.
Hi Freyr, iv bin playn around wiv the aip files and learnt that if u omit a QUATATION mark, the game will still work, but omitting the COMMA, then the game will crash. The game will crash if u choose the race whos aip file is missing the COMMA as well! so the game reads all the RACE ai's, no matter what race the human player will be (learn sumfin new all the time). as the dominion ai has never workd since i installed them then il av to find a diff dom ai file from st-gamers downloads and transfer the files!
Just tryed the borg stock AIP files and the game crashed at the end of the loadbar??? maybe its sumfin else that causin the prob.
Do the following, step by step.
1) Put a copy of all of your existing AIP files inside a zip file. 2) Delete all files in the AIP folder. 3) Put all of the stock AIP's in the folder. 4) See if the game still crashes.
If the game still crashes, the problem is not an error in the AIP files. If it does not crash then it narrows the problem down to those files and you can move the AIP's back in small groups until the game starts crashing.
took ur advice and copyed the ai and added stock 1s but its still crashing at the end of the loadbar, how do i activate that staum progrm ur recommended as iv put it in my armada2 directory?
It needs to be unzipped into the directory along with all of the text files that come with it. Then, open an ODF file and click on the button that looks like "play" and it will scan that file for errors and output anything it doesn't recognise in the bottom screen.
It's not perfect and will produce false positives, I have a revised list on mine to include physics entries etc but it certainly points out where you have made mistakes.
