I don't even remember the name of the ship. It's like a borg star (deathstar?(from A1)). Anyways, I want it to behave like a turrent. The problem is after it's built, it smokes(with fire)...outside of that it works just fine. Also this 'ship' works fine as a ship. I tried it with crew and without.

I tried swapping different odfs around(station, ships and turrent) but still the same. I even tried swapping different sods...same thing. The only time I got it to stop smoking was when I actually used the same turrent odf and sod file(But this defeats the purpose of wanting something different).

When using different odf's, I made sure that the hardpoints matched the original... which did also smoke. So I don't think it's a hardpoint & Sod mismatch issue.

It seems I remember seeing this problem many years ago.

Anyone have a clue what causes this?

Thanks

p.s. This is for A2

The issue is caused because the original model still has a venting node for its engines (the plasma "smoke"). When ANY ships engine hardpoint has no hitpoints for it or is temporarily disabled then the venting starts.

Aside from putting up with it you could try one of two methods:

1) Reverse convert the model and reconvert it. This is the most beneficial as you can give the model as many hardpoints as you like and remove any you don't need.

2) Take a hex editor, search for the venting node and rename it so that it acts like a regular hardpoint, then just dont asign the hardpoint to anything. Now this method is a bit more theoretical and I've never tried it myself. It may or may not crash the game or just simply stop the unit from functioning correctly or as you want it to.

Thanks, I'll look into it.

Ugh, just downloaded several Klingon stations and they do the same thing( I didn't change anything on them).
