I can open the .odf files in to edit them for adding ships, etc. I use notepad and make the appropriate changes in the code. However, it will never let me save those changes. It keeps saying "cannot create . Make sure the path and file name are correct." Perhaps I'm using the wrong program?

Right click on the file and choose properties. The read only box will be checked. Click on that to un-check it, and then you can edit and save the file.

Do what bgil said but right click the odf folder itself and do that. That way you only need to do it once. If you have Vista like meyou also have to go to the security tab and make sure that(whatever user you are in the list) has everything checked in the left column. Then apply the new settings and thats it.

I have the same problem, it's read only, right click and choose copy, paste it onto the desktop, make the changes, replace it with the one from the directory and it will never say the message again and you can make modifications to your hearts content. Firestorm603.

There is an easier way: Right click on the Star Trek Armada II directory, uncheck read-only and when the program asks, click yes to remove write protection from every subfolder and file.
