hey guys ok heres the issue. I play Instant Action 3 federations vs. Dominion, Breen, and Cardassian. All set to medium. The other federations dont want to do anything. They very slowly contruct things. it took them almost 2 hours to build an advanced shipyard. The first time i played i thought it was they didnt have enough resources to really get going before they got swarmed. but the second time i set resources to start at 30K ("Lots") and it was the same thing. I ended up taking on all three enemies at once. because they AI Feds werent doing anything. Heres the mods i have installed Dominion Ultimate 1.0 and 1.4 extention Abassador class, Nova class, Prometheus class, miranda class, refit excelsior class, New Orleans class.

Now the only thing i can think of is that since i replaced the intrepid with the miranda and the aegean with the Nova ( both were taken out of their respective ship yards ODf files). that maybe the computer AI is having issues cause its looking for a spefic ship and its not there. so its messing it up. It never builds anything above a colony ship, and right after that is where the Intrepid would be. SO IM thinking that the fact that the intrepid is no longer in the shipyard odf to be built that the AI doesnt know what to do.

tell me if that what you guys think. i personally think the intrepid is useless, and thats why i replaced it with the miranda.

I think you're right. It sounds like the problem is in the AI files. They can be tricky, 'cause 1 little mistake can mess the whole thing, but I suggest using the find/replace command in all the AI files for the ships you replaced.

Ive seen this happen to the Borg on Gates(8 player) with purple, green, brown and red colors only as I frequently face 3 AI Hard borg vs 4 AI easys+me. I found that using Yellow, Sky Blue and Blue are best for the borg. I think it has something to do with the colors you choose them to be. Try using the colors I use even if your facing more or less enemys. If your going against 4 or 5 enemys on an 8 player the best thing you could do is choose Y,SB and B in the enemy selection because you will have at least 3 active enemys and 2 not so active. Ive also noticed that my allys stop building anything once they have been repeatedly attacked and after a long time as they just sit there. This also may have something to do with the resources thing as I used to have infinate stuff so I didnt have to worry about mining or trading. Now I do use the resources and I have found that in prolonged battles my allies dont sit there any more after 2-3 hours of fighting, they continue the battle. I hope this helps

Whoa, sorry but this can't be right. The selection colors don't have anything to do with it. Na, man, it's the map/resources or the AI files. As I said, the AI is pretty tricky. An easy way around AI issues (won't always work) is to add this command at the beginning of the file: int checkTechnologyAvailable = 0; That'll at least keep some mistake from stopping 'em.

ok well how about this issue? is there any way to get the AI to build the modded ships that i have put into the game? since the federation fleet is now almost half made up of modded ships.

i tried changing the names of the ODF files in the fed build list for the AI but it still refuses to build anything higher then an akira. class. im starting to get annoyed. im thinking im gonna have to readd the intrepid back to the list of ships. Even though i despise it soo much.

Did you change all the AI files? Also, you need to make sure every line in those files is correct. Make sure all the units are spelled right. Make sure the numbers are appropriate. Make sure the punctuation is correct. Are the Tech files updated as well? And did you try this command? int checkTechnologyAvailable = 0; If the problem is in the AI files, here's the check procedure I recommend: 1) Make copies of the 5 Race.aip files and place them in a safe place. 2) Then delete all but the first few entries (the first Tech level) in each file in the Activision\Star Trek Armada II\AI\AIPs folder. Save and close. 3) Run the game with one (or more) AI opponent(s) with all build settings on high. (I created a test map for this purpose with plenty of resources and an asteroid field isolating my position so I could watch the AI build (with fog off) without dying.) 4) If the AI builds all the ships in its list, open all 5 .aip files and add the next Tech level to each. 5) Repeat steps 3 and 4 'till you find the unit that's not building. 6) Then investigate that unit till you find the cause. I.E.: check spelling in odfs/sods/aips/tts and etc. Then check the files themselves for the cause. I think you get the idea. Just approach any problems with the process of elimination. It does take time, but you'll usually find the problem this way.

well i went into the AI files for the federatio and any place where it said intrepid i replaced with Miranda. and anyplace i saw aegean i replaced with ambassador or New orleans, and i know i spelled them correctly and punctuated them correctly. the computer will build everythign before it gets to the intrepid (miranda) and then it will just stop building and wll only build when it needs to replace units it has lost. and its ONLY Federation. Every other AI works fine. i mean i dont play anythign but federation anyway, but it would be nice to know what i messed up lol.

If you follow a procedure something like the one above, you can track down the problem. It does sound like you might need to update your Tech files to mesh with the AI build lists. Look at the post above. It should lead you to a solution.
