I love all the kinds of ships, tech & stations that have been offered. But one thing i want to do is keep it fair during the game. Having a Defiant wipe out a borg Sphere is not my idea of fun. As well as my starbases seem to have these sensors that cover half the map per station. How do i tone down the weapons and the sensors? Finally I loaded the Milkshape program but every time I try to run the program it crashes and says that there was a problem loading and Microsoft wants me to send them an error report. What could it be?
Sensors, Weapons, Shields, HP, build cost, build time, crew.. they can all be adjusted to your liking by editing ODF files. Shields and hull integrity can even be set to different levels, and something like Ablative Armor can be simulated easily by choosing a system to represent the "armor" and changing the hit chances so that most of the damage goes to that system until it's destroyed. ODF editing is fairly simple, but if you have any questions I'll try to answer them to the best of my knowledge. As for Milkshape 3D, I have no idea what's wrong with it. I just tried downloading and installing it yesterday as a matter of fact and it did the exact same thing to me. You can get a 30 day free trial of the latest version here.

I am a pretty good ODF editor, here are some tips. To tone down sensor ranges, look for "rangeScan", it should be followed by a number. Make the number smaller for smaller scanner range. Weapons can be changed, added and taken away through odf's aswell. Look for "weaponx = ?????" (X should be a number) for a list of available weapons, check out the odf/weapons folder. Delete some weapons for less power or change the already present weapons to weaker ones. Make sure that "weapon4" is followed by "weapon5" etc otherwise the weapons won't work.
