I have an issue with the number or playable races in the game. For some reason, A2 does not like going over the number 14 in a lot of things. I have created additional races, up to 25, yet only 14 are playable, and the rest will play if the AI does it. I have swapped them around in number of order, changed odf's, yet after number 14, whatever race it is, it cannot be played by the player. Anyone else run into that problem?

....yup. It's a hard-coded fact of the game that fourteen is the best you can hope for --fourteen races, fourteen items per build list, fourteen Vulcan love slaves per.... well, never you mind. ;)

The only way to get around it is to do the "race-swap". Set up two races --let's say, the Goa'uld and the Tholians-- both as race #6, then change the "odf\other\races.odf" file to represent either the Stargate or the Star Trek race as you choose.

And at least one of those races has to be "norace.odf". I'm not certain if "fer.odf" is mandatory since you can always play with Ferengi off. I prefer to leave 'em on so that the intergalactic janitor can do his job. (I have my game configured so that the Ferengi scavenger is really Pakled....)

LOL! I thought so. The funny thing is that you can still have more than 14 races, and the AI will play them with no problems...thats fantastic...Im glad you straightened that out for me though, looks like I will have to create alliances in order to play everyone, i.e.; the Mirak-Wyn Cluster alliance or something, lol. Thanks!

Another way around it is to simply add someone else's conship to the base race .odf --for instance, "kconst.odf" as a starting ship in "fed.odf" wouldn't be against canon while "dconst.odf" might require a little fancy explaining.

However, keep in mind the .AIP files need to make sense to the computer. I made that mistake a long time ago when I had a brief idea of making a Jem'Hadar / Cardassian alliance race and used the Dominion Ultimate .AIPs (at least, that's what I think I did). The Cardassian conship just sat there for the longest time, and because the one I was using was armed, I managed to capture it when it accompanied a bunch of attack ships and a battlecruiser on an assault on my base!

You can also start off with just one generic starbase for 2 races that then 'fuses' into either one starbase or the other to let you choose your race and then build your construction ships. However I don't think there is a good way to do this with the AI because I'm not sure they can be made to randomly select which race they want to play with. Just a thought if you weren't too fussed about AI

That will work. Also what I have done is on the particular race's odf file, where it asks for standard units, I added another race's construction ship, and modified the AI to build that race's shipyard, that way, I can have the Orion's stations/ships, while let say the Pirate Consortium build its shipyards and ships. Works for me.
