I just got back into A2 after a long break, and i'm already having a problem with it. In instant action, on either the first or second session i play, the game freezes for no obvious reason (doesn't correspond with any particular action) and i have to restart the computer manually. the only changes i've made were some ship/weapon odf modifications and i'm almost positive those aren't the cause. My computer's a Compaq presario laptop with 80GB hard drive, 1.25GB ram, ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 video card w/ 64MB running Windows XP Pro. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. Yes i checked the other threads on crashes/freezes and tried to post to them, all to no avail
Have you tried Re-installing the game? That helps a lot of problems.
A clean install didn't help. I've also tried using XP's compatibility mode with 95 and 98, also with no luck
You said you had 'got back to it.' Had you ever used Armada 2 on this Laptop before? Some Laptops can have difficulties.
Armada 2 is not recommended for XP (so says the box), although I have seen threads where people using XP have got it to work.
Does your Laptop have SP2 installed? This causes problems on this XP comp. It causes Armada 2 to have a framerate of about 3fps.
With an ATI X800 XT PE and 1GB of ram, it's not exactly being punished by playing Armada 2.
yeah, the last time i was playing the game it was on a PC with Windows 2000 or less
i do have XP with SP2 on the laptop. when the game's working its fine, but inevitably it just freezes
How does it freeze? Does the framerate slowly drop, or does it just freeze isntantly.
Does the sound also freeze?
Either way, my best advice would be to play it on another computer. Works fine on the 98 PC (Pentium 2, 8mb 3d card, 192mb ram).
I'm running A2 on a XP Pro SP2 machine and I have no problems even modded... Does it only freeze in instant action? or does it freeze in single player as well? Regardless, it sounds as though some part of your system may be overheating, causing the system to lock up...
