Hope someone can help. This is my first post, so I hope I give enough info. I installed the Perceu ship on my laptop, and suddenly the background stars became white squares. I thought it was peculiar and maybe a prob with the laptops graphics. Then I installed the ship on my desktop computer and the same thing happened. I looked at the odf and sprite files I thought might have caused the prob, but it all looks ok. Anyone have any ideas??

I use that ship on a PC not laptop. A very weak graphics card just MIGHT cause that but it is unlikely.

Well, the laptop has a ATI mobility 9700 (I guess an M10?), with 256mb memory and the desktop has a Radeon 9700 Pro. I guess what I need to know is where does the call out for the textures for the stars come from. I seem to remember ( was involved) having to change some things for this ship to work, but don't recall exactly what I did. How do the stars get textured?

look at your TGA files to see if the star backgrounds look correct and aren't messed up.

Ok, took a closer look, and the stars are ok, they're just ALL white. The background galaxies are ok, just the stars are all white. Where does the color for them get added? I looked at the background star tga file, it's good, so I guess these are really added foreground stars? So I've got nothing but white stars, or maybe they're just markers where the stars are supposed to be. I think I'll go have a beer now and quite worrying about it. The game is still playable after all.

When the elusive things happen it can never hurt to install new files to see if corruption caused it. I have a whole standard A2 installed in my D drive so I can import stock files as needed if I mess something up od accidently delete.
