So I had to do a complete rebuild of my personal version of Armada II. My CD still worked (thankfully) but now, among other things which I can fix, the following things I don't know how to fix are happening. Instead of getting stars, I get these massive white boxes just floating there. I know in my old version that I had changed the starfield, but I don't know where or how to check in order to get this working, and the BBOM doesn't have anything that I can find specifically about this. Also, I'm seeing a big white spot (not a proper warp flash) when ships go to warp. It's very irritating. I don't know what to check, or where, for either of these two problems. Anyone who can point me to the right place to start looking (and don't say "check the BBOM!" because as I said, I already did check the BBOM) will be a hero to me, and tales of their renown will be told for generations. :bows: Thanks!

Starfield is controlled through a series of odfs, textures and the starfield.spr file. The odfs control the number of visible stars, the textures are what the stars will look like and the starfield sprite file contains the necessary reference to the textures. So because you're just getting white boxes instead of proper starts, there's a couple things you'll need to check... Does the texture used in starfield.spr match up with the one you want to use? Or does the texture used in starfield.spr exist or has it been deleted? Make sure that starfield.spr matches up with the relevant texture in the same way you would with other sprite files... starting height, starting width, used height, used width... I think the stock starfield uses this to differentiate it into different types. Also check the odfs to make sure they are displaying the correct types of stars, by this I mean check the starfield.spr against the relevant odfs... make sure the star types have the same names. If you were previously using Yacuzza's space transformation pack(can't think of any other mod(to my knowledge) which changes the starfield) re-installing it should do the trick, too. Hope that helps, or at least puts you on the right track. I'd assume the warp flash is a similar problem, the texture and sprite not matching up... I'm not sure which sprite file it's in though.

I have no experience with the starfield issue but elevatormusic sounds like he covered it. I once tried to find the warp sprites and was unable to. The texture is Mwarp.tga, in the RGB folder.

Just for the record..... problem solved! Anyone having starfield-related issues in the future: \odf\other\ststars.odf That's the file to hack at.

Well, the other file types are useful too if you want to make your own starfields, the other .odfs are useful too... making them all the same would be a good idea, some maps might use other starfield ods then that one, although I don't do any mapping whatsoever so I can't say for certain... But the different ones can also be used in the ART_CFG file in the following lines: #define STARFIELD_GEOMETRY_NAME "mbgpur" #define STARFIELD_ODF_NAME "stDefault.odf" To set the base background and starfield for random maps, where "mbgpur" is the base name for the texture set.
