Hey guys and gals. For a while now i have been working on some low poly models designed for the stargate race known as the ancients/Lantians. I have a couple of questions. 1) how few polygons would the A2 comunity consider stupidly few. 2) what is the best (and when i say best i mean cheapest) program for creating textures? I used to have photoshop but the machine it was on is gone.:bawl: For my personal use and testing i have borrowed textures but one day i hope to release the models so i will need original ones. to demonstrate the size of the models i have added a couple of pictures. one is an orbital mining station while the other is a medium class ship (probably a light cruiser) Any feedback is ofcourse welcome, please try to be positive!

I'd consider under 10 poly's stupidly few.

For most ships, around 3-4k should be the aim point for a ship that's going to have several on the screen, though i'm not really a modeller so other people may be able to answer this better than me.

Depends on the ship or structure. My own personal preference is using the aprox amounts (although I say aprox simply because its very difficult to actually stick to them specifically):

- Fighters: 400-600 - Multiple built capital ships (10 or more): Up to 3000 - Capital ships (up to 10 built): 5000 or as near to - Single build capitals (hero ships): anything to 6500 should be fine

Structures are dependant on the type:

- Turrets no more than about 1000 - Shipyards/starbases: between 3000-4000 - Research stations and unique single built: anything up to 6500

Its entirely down to balancing mesh detailing and texture detailing.

well firstly thanks for the advice guys. my plan is to use more detailed textures and keep the model simple. It helps that most Lantian architecture seen in stargate is angular.

This may help show what i mean. This is a ship of around 450 polys with the textures from Greathor's Aurora. I stress i have no permission to use these textures and i would never release anything without permission, this is just to demonstrate. please feel free to comment.

other than what looks to be a lil stretching on the back looks really good man....unless its supposed to be like that
